eek is correct about why I've posted this thread, and I've since had language speakers for whom English is not their first tell me that it is helpful to know the meaning of words, to learn new words, and to help them expand their English vocabulary. But... I also am doing this to encourage people to speak to each other properly. Gamer speak, text speak and leet speak seem to be the norm these days, and while all that is functional, technically readable, and just fine when you're on Twitter and have 140 characters to get your point across... that is not how people really should talk to each other.
Well, this is my thread, and my idea to help people improve themselves. You'll just have to deal with that.
I wasn't trying to flame your thread, was just pointing out nothing is going to stop "gamer speak" on the internet. This is 2015
She's saying this could be applied to real life too... It's great to have an extensive vocabulary to get your point across. Sure it's 2015, but does that mean you'd go into your first job interview and speak MLG language?
Well, anyone with common sense wouldnt. But with a 'word of a day' on a MINECRAFT forum, is that gonna get you the job?xD
What's wrong with speaking proper English on a video game...? I, for one, do most of the time, and I know that many others do. I think Kmax has a great purpose behind this thread, as it can't be a bad thing to learn about the language we all speak here (primary or not).
I myself speak proper English, except the occasional 'lol' or 'wtf' or the usual abbreviations. But on a video game, it's not about spelling, why do people have to spell properly online on a video game? It doesn't matter at all, as long as you know how to spell in real life for jobs and that it doesn't matter. People are different, some use proper English some don't, people need to learn to deal with it. Anyways I'm not replying back to here.
I've enhanced IRL essays with the expansive vocabulary some of the users have, and by using them correctly I did boost my writing and persuasion skill. Learning from ECC users does happen, and I thank you @KMaxwell for doing this. Reminds me of some of the words I should know but have never used. Also, using words that most people don't know and sounding quite sophisticated about it makes you pretty dapper
I learn more new words online rather than in school because teachers assume that I randomly know good vocabulary. Thanks for doing this @KMaxwell <3
If we could try to keep posts on this thread on topic, please? Discussions of today's word, or suggestions for future words are highly encouraged. Posts or comments that are attacking or otherwise trolly should not be posted here. If that continues I will start reporting them as this is simply not the place.
