Coolslammer3 right so 8 minutes per potion.. I don't know what it's needed to make one but still, you have to make a bunch of those and if you run out it will mean back and forth trips wasting time. I'd still strongly suggest to go with the armor
MCHelix3000 or get a good armor and still not die in lava, saving $30 USD and investing instead about 20k ECD (I got my full prot4 w/ feather falling [boots] armor for about 15k though, negotiation =P )

but chewychunga you have All Features don't you? The only way you could die in the nether is by physical damage from a 2nd party (player or mob) haha that's quite comfortable

Not really. But I've seen everyone has their opinion on this. Personally, I've never died in the nether because of the fire/lava/etc. I fall from 100 blocks and survive, I catch fire because I accidentally run into lava and survive (or fight blazes, fall into lava, run into fire). All of this with my full protIV diamond armor + feather falling. So, I insist. Pyro+ it's not worth it in nether. At least not for me. I have never felt like I need protection against fire/lava besides my armor. But then, that's just me. Other people might find it harder to survive just with this.
Ive only died once in the nether. I fell for about 50 blocks and landed in lava (with no armor) and lost my fortune 3.
The Nether is only dangerous if you aren't careful around the lava OR if another player is on in the nether and decides to kill you and take your stuff. I lost my max fortune 3 that way..
The nether is dangerous if you don't pay attention and react fast. With Pyro+ and Fly+ I still die. Loud music, muted Minecraft, 5 hearts and a ghast.
i think its worth it, i bought it today, and have spent an hour so far in the nether and have come out with tons of exp a 3/4 stack of quarts blocks 2 ghast tears and some gunpowder , i have a fort3 pick and plain diamond armour
Well, I don't think the nether is too dangerous, but it does terrify me. You always have access to /spawn, so there isn't really a danger if you are a fast typer. But, I'm always terrified I'll fall, or see someone, etc, so that's why I find it terrifying.
