Tested again with Leather Boots with Feather Fall I. No gain or loss of experience.
Unsure what enchant was on Leather Chest from original problem. I believe either Protect I or Projectile Protect I. -
@ClarinetPhoenix @UnitedStates2 see if you can figure out what is causing a loss of XP and if perhaps simply an MC mechanic.

You shouldn't be losing EXP from disenchanting items with a grindstone at all. Even for the lowest value enchants, you'll still get an orb of experience. I can't replicate this on ECC either, despite testing out a different leather tunic for every single applicable enchantment.
