    I stole this image from zardgyer post about mining in the general discussion as it shows gold ingots almost as rare as diamonds and at levels 12 the prime layer for mining you actually should come across more diamonds than gold.

    +1 I mine fairly regularly and find around the same amount of gold as diamond ore and sometimes even less gold. Not to mention the fact that you only get 1 gold per ore and 1-4 diamonds per ore!
