Well if you expect a serious answer, I would define this as a relation that includes both rivalry and complicity. Rivalry is a kind of mark of a respect - you truly consider the other person (so imo rivalry ≠ competition). You trust in him. Complicity cuz it means understanding the other person, maybe not totally, but enough to trust him. Idk if in English there also is a difference between "trust in" and "trust", but if not, I understand " Trust" as considering the person as trustworthy (to this you need understanding) and "trust in" as considering the other as capable.
