I (and I think others) are not understanding what you want to do then. You do not want to make him an offer based on what you feel is fair?
If that is opposite of what you want to do, exactly what do you want to do then?

 

I want him to tell me how much he wants for it, as I stated in my original post, which you would have known if you had read it.

 

Whatever number he says your going to say less. Not sure why he'd do what you want in this situation...

 

That goes both ways... If I offer what I think it's worth her going to say more.. Might as well cut to the price he will sell it at. The whole offer thing is stupid really. Stores don't label that products with stickers that say "make me an offer" and you certainly don't barter with the store about their prices.. Put a price tag on it and I'll see if i want to buy it or not it's that simple. Otherwise make it an auction type situation where all bids are veiwable to the public and everyone knows where they stand

 

When you sell something on Craigslist you don't say "make me an offer".... I don't understand how this is different
