    I have seen floating players in the mining world and around the "build" portals.. They generally only float about a block above the ground. Is this a client-side glitch?

    Yes, this is usually just the effect of lag. However, this could also be the use of the "Fly" donation feature (or fly+ for nether/mining world flying).
