I would compare the sword to how an Eff4/5 Diamond Pickaxe or Axe used to work before the 1.4 update.

I don't have one of those swords myself, but here's some "approximate" answers which I have concluded from having tested it myself:

    1. About $15,000-$17,000/Hour, this of course without the need of Fly/Speed or Speed Potions, which would mean an additional 'cost' for being able to farm properly.

    2. On a 200x200 farm, you probably won't harvest half a complete floor even if you do it non-stop during an hour. (Each 200x200 Floor equals 4 100x100 Floors).

    3. Probably not more than 4.

Note: As I have said, I don't own one of those swords myself, so there's a chance the information provided by me is wrong as I couldn't perform extensive testing. I've rounded some approximates aswell based on claims I've heard in Global chat from people who have one, and use it frequently.

if u wana farm fast, get a freakishly freakishly big sugar cane farm. sugar cane = 0.3 cents and pumpkins is 0.6 cents. this means 2 sugar cane = 1 pumpkin and sugarcan is faster as it grows up to 3 blocks, u can take 2 blocks which is equal to pumpkins and its also faster to mine in just 1 hit, with tons of sugarcane growing, theres endless amount for u to collect. i collected 1 chest of sugar cane in 5 mins in my farm, that shows the amount i earn. ( i get 1 chest with fly though )

um, no. Maybe, YOU should read the wiki. Swords ARE meant for melons. That is why only efficiency 5 swords work more efficiently on melons.

Swords are ment to kill mobs or players not for farming, its only through anvil u can add efficient on it. in the wiki it says sword is only ment for player and mob killing but additional stats like efficient can be added to do further stuffs like farming.

Swords are the default tool for melons. Try using a reg diamond sword, break a melon, then use any other regular tool, and see what's faster.

The reality of this is that minecraft has programmed swords as the TOOL that is supposed to be used for melons. In my opinion, this is an oversight or mistake. The tool should probably be an axe. We'll see if Mojang has the wisdom to fix this in the next update because it is really really stupid to have the tool for a block be something that can't have efficiency put on it. Also, you can only put efficiency onto a sword in creative mode.

Actually, there is no specific tool used for melons, which is why swords are faster, because they're supposed to be faster than a regular tool in breaking a lot of things.
The reason they take doubledamage is exactly because they're slightly faster, but not supposed to work in that way.
This was done way before enchantments got implemented, and they never changed this, therefore they're NOT supposed to be used as the tool for farming melons, they originally couldn't even have efficiency on them.

Well, that may be true. But, if it is true then theoretically and Eff V sword wouldn't be more efficient than a normal sword because the change that was made to tools on blocks is that efficiency only helps when the tool is used on the block that the tool is designed for. Therefore, if there is no tool that is meant to be used on melons, then there should be no tool for which efficiency helps in farming melons. Or is it that efficiency is only significantly helpful when a tool is used on a block for which it is meant to be used. If that is the case then an Eff V sword would only be mildly faster than Eff V tools because it is mildly more useful on melons merely because it does more base damage.
