I myself hate to use silk touch pickaxes because they require me to break all the ores twice, it gives the eff7 practically no advantage over the eff 5, because you need to break all the ores with an eff5 to get the stuff.

 

I am for and against this...

Considering how fast eff7 breaks everything, it is best to keep things in their ore state. You would have to teleport around far too much if it was fort 3 - therefore, highly illogical.

However, if both options could be available, or some kind of eff6 with higher unbreaking and fort 3, that would be interesting.

 

Cant you change the enchant on a anvil, with a fortune pick in the first slot?

 

sadly no, you cannot remove enchantments

 

I personally prefer having silk touch on this. With all the ores you can find (especially redstone) your inventory would definetly get full wayyy to fast to be able to spend a lot of time continuously mining. And also, if it did come with fortune, cobble just is useless. Stone is worth $.05 more than cobble and also looks better while building.

So, I am completely against putting the pick with fortune 3, but I have nothing against leaving it at only eff 7 and unbreak 3 thus leaving it up to the owner to decide.

 

Does it remove the eff VII? Because I can do it fine with eff V picks

 

I have tried many ways to change my eff7 unb3 silk into fortune 3. I tried a for3 book, but for3 does not overwrite silk. I tried putting the book on a pick and combining -- too expensive. I tried a 'normally' enchanted for3 dpick -- too expensive.

I want two eff7 picks, one with silk and one with for3. but i really want one with for3.

 

Just use:

/sell blocks
/sell redstone
/sell coal
/sell lapis
/sell ibar

OR, toss your diamonds/gold on the ground and use

/sell all

then pick up the diamonds/gold.

OR, just /sell all and take a small loss on the diamonds/gold.

 

While yes people say silk touch is good, but the problem is when some of us want to change them, we have to go all the way down to Eff IV or V (if you get a book) and use that low low speed to convert the ores.

I assume people like tanstaafl want to mine all the ores with silk, and then mine them just as fast with fortune somewhere else.

 

I want to mine with stone, dore and eore with silk. Everything else with fortune. I would switch between picks

Redstone and coal make decorative blocks, why would anyone sell them...? Sure, if you are mining purely for instant cash, but I think it would be much wiser to keep your coal and redstone, as people buy those coal blocks and redstone blocks. You'd make more money. Same with iron, too; I know there are some people right now really looking for iron blocks.

 

People only pay a tiny bit more than server price for those, it is not worth the time spent selling them to players. You make a lot more money just doing /sell and continuing to mine.

 

There are actually a few user market shops that pay well for them - it only takes an extra minute or two. And if you find someone buying a lot, a longer wait can be very worth it. To each their own, though.

 

May have been said.... make the pick eff 7 unbreak 3.

 

I understand your point of view, but I'm just in it for the highest $/hour I can squeeze out. The time it takes to drag and drop your coal/redstone/ibars into the workbench to make blocks and then the time to travel to shops or put them in trade signs and the time it takes while holding right click on a trade sign to sell is all time I spend mining instead, at a higher $/hour.
