    I recently built a 32x32 10 floor wheat farm with a 32x32 6 floor melon farm on top. It seems like there's way more lag when I'm in that building. When I chop melons I have to chop some multiple times to make them stay chopped. Is this caused by lots of plants in a small area?

    Yes. Farming causes lag because there are more things within the chunk to update.

    It's not the plants, you go to any area with quite a bit of buildings, it will lag more
