Zeno, you are a godsend. <3 Ill let you know if i have any other problems, but for now i think I'm going with this. Just a few questions though: Do USB 3.0 ports work with USB 2.0 Cables? Is it really much better to get an i7? What is the main reason to have an SSD? If i wanted to upgrade a CPU, could i remove the cooler on top of it despite the thermal paste?\ Is a sound card necessary for good audio?
Yes just you're going to lose speed edit: actually what do you mean cables which ones No unless it's a $400 price increase or more 500x the speed of a 5200 rpm faster windows bootup No you absolutely need a cooler No unless you have 7.1 stereo speakers then you'll hear crackling on 1080p HD audio Don't forget with your massive system you'll need a crapload of fans
Well, if you're patient ant I want to give you some info, I bought my computer over 2 months. If I bought it all at once I'd have to pay $1400 since I waited I got it down to $1000 with the rebates and promos. If you wait for the flooding in Thailand (God knows when) you can save $140 because I bought my 2 TB for $60 Since I forgot I was last poster I'll just use this post
I think the stock fans that come with the case will be fine.. The upgrade air cooler will help the most.. Also you might want to look into also adding TIM (thermal interface material) for your build for the mounting of the CPU to the cooler. like Artic Silver (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6835100007) like xxemuxx said SSD = extremely fast.. less than a min for boot into windows. Don't worry about USB3 and yes the cables fit. There are more than enough USB2 ports there for you. The i7 price for an 1155 socket MB is not worth it. You can always remove the cooler on top of your CPU you just need to clean it with denatured alcohol and reapply according to manufacture specifications or TIM specifications. I use headphones and I do have an SoundBlaster Fatality X-FI sound card. I notice a little bit of a difference i guess but is it worth 150+... Like xxemuxx said if you have a high quality 7.1 system then yes get a sound card...
Just a couple questions: For replacing the cpu, i meant if i could take it off, even though there was thermal paste, replace the cpu and put the cooler back on. Where can i get these "fans" For my massive system? Also, I've used Zeno's last model, upgraded it a bit and finished it out. It comes out just below my budget with shipping+ tax. Ill post the build soon.
I disagree.. If you are ready to buy, buy.. There is always a deal coming out soon.. You buy the best you can afford at the time you are ready to buy. The next best thing is around the corner. Maybe put it off a month to see if HDD prices come back down because as xxemuxx said they are very very high.. I just spend 180 on a 1.5TB that i spent 60 for a few months ago. There are Ivy Bridge parts coming out for the 1155 socket in the coming days but once again thats a premium. I always go with Get What you Can When you Can.!
check the case specs and see what kind of empty fan bays it has. But i think you will just fine.. maybe add 1 120mm fan like such as an exhaust in the back of the case. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6835103069
The reality is ant. 16gb is going to get you through to next 10 years atleast. No game is going to utilize more then 4 gb unless it's target specifically at 64-bit games (which games would probably lose 40% profit) The I5-2500k is still respected as one of the best processors for gaming and beats the i7 because of overclock-ability. The i5 served my buddy years running 24/7 (he hosts a private server) at 4.5ghz. The k series was built to be bashed around and overclocked so you're not going to get much out of hyper threading or a STOCK 100 mhz increase. Look up "Will hyper threading be in games soon" and look at benchmarking results.
Seconded! and you could prob really get away with 8GB of memory but the price difference is not much between 8 and 16.. hell i picked up 24GB for 180 a few months ago... The 2500K can give my i7 980 OC to 4.28gHz a run for its money and its a 6 core with hyperthreading..
Also when choosing ram you're going to get about a 1-2 fps increase if you choose a 2133 speed over a 1666 or 1333. (experience and benchmarks) Compatibility over speed with ram. (Like the Z series of ripjaws are aimed at the X79 platform)

I disapprove of you keyboard choice if you're actually going to use that... Asrock extreme3 gen3 is much better then the P8Z68s too Here are the basic gaming rules, if you're going to buy a 2500k you're going to buy an extreme3 gen3 http://store.razerzone.com/store/razeru ... d.35156900 https://www.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ%3ANVDA derp was looking at my stocks ROFL http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813157271
what video card the link didn't work correctly. The DVD/Blu is a Blu-Ray Burner also you can just get a regular Blu-ray ROM with a DVD burner such as the LG http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6827136246 as xxemuxx said with the MB .. ASRock is actually ASUS... LOL.. just there lesser know brand.!
GPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814161399 (I edited the main post to include this too) I have such a crappy keyboard because my budget is tight... total with shipping and tax was $2500.91 lmao The first thing i plan to upgrade is keyboard/mouse... (right now i'm using a stock mouse) Is there any other things i should change? Is this good? ^_^
The 7970 is topped by the 580 and the 580 is cheaper. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814130587 edit: I know you're thinking that the HIS has double the memory, but gpu ram is just so it can keep it on the card itself and not send memory to your ram. More gpu ram/memory the bigger your screen can be... and some other stuff you're not bound to get into. Even if the gpu does have to send memory to your ram you're not going to notice it still. (30 fps is what humans can see. Just get that and the blackwidow/deathadder because keyboard and mouse tops all if your computer is functional and fast) After all that if you're unsatisfied you're not beating your friends fps... Then buy another 580. buy yourself a keyboard it'll help bechieve me. $260 left get that blackwidow a deathadder and a delta fan
How could it OUTPREFORM it if it is a bigger name brand and has more memory? Looks pretty good, I might get it. Also, id definitely get a Cyborg Rat 9 instead of a death adder :3 Delta fan isn't needed Blackwidow is pretty expensive for features, you're basically paying for mechanical
79.99 is not expensive for a keyboard -.- It's like ram, sometimes 1333 can outperform 2133 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The only feature is the fact that it's mechanical.pretty much. Also, id have to pay extra shipping for it to get to canada... :l Id probably go with either this or something like Logitech g19 or perhaps alienware(since its cheap)
newer games such as BF3 require larger memory GPU's for the textures. The system memory as far as i understand it doesn't not come into play with the GPU's as they keep it all on the videocard board unless you have onboard video then it does alocated system memory for the gpu.. My 580GTX has 3GB of memory. Supposedly has better performance for BF3 and large texture games. The RAT 9 is an amazing mouse but a hell of an expensive one what about a Logitech G500 or something similar to upgrade what you have but keep it within range. and i belive that the 7970 is stomping the 580GTX's in benchmarking... i'll have a quick look http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gam ... ,3107.html check that link out.
