okay im going to try and fix this...
-i tried changing my password
-i did not forget my password
-i re-downloaded minecraft (did not work)
- it seems that in my finder than there is no library (on mac)... i cannot get to my minecraft folder and delete all mcfolders...

What is the exact error you are receiving?

 

Try and restart your internet router, this may just be a connection issue.

 

the error i receive from the minecraft application is: LOGIN FAILED
the error i receive from minecraft.net is: Oops, unknown username or password. If you are logging in with a Mojang account make sure to use your e-mail address as username.

Alright well are you using a email address? And if that doesnt work, and you cannot log into minecraft.net Email mojang about the issue, someone most likely went into your account and changed the password.

 

any ideas what mojang would do

You might have to go onto the minecraft website and see what options there are about account recovery or finding your account in the case someone has performed a migration on you or something. The most likely thing is if you cannot log into your mc account then someone changed your password and then logged in onto it forcing you out of mc. You now need to see what options there are about account recover, we can't really help you too much further with your accounts security.

Also I recommend you check your emails for the email account your mc account is tied into

 

sorry for the unnecessary post but you library is in a hidden folder:
1. go to finder
2. press command + shift + G
3. ~/library/application support/
4. find minecraft

 

Sorry for the post, but maybe try a different computer if you have multiple in your house.
