Greetings staff at EcoCityCraft,

My name is Catsof, and I am an administrator at the [Mod Edit]. I understand that your server is much larger than mine, and probably receives many more complaints, too. No, I'm not advertising my server to you. But, before you ignore this thread because I am part of a different server, or because it does not follow the damn cookie-cutter template, or because it is too long, hear me out.

Earlier today, one of your allegedly fantastic members by the name of mars236 logged on and promptly began spamming your IP on my server. None of my staff members happened to be online during that time, so mars236 spammed for quite some time. My members promptly ignored him and reported him, providing screenshots of his offense. Here, in the spoiler, is a brief glimpse of the havoc that your member has caused. Not shown is a sexual harassment of one of my players over PMs.

I find this offense very disgusting and a disgrace to the extraordinary Minecraft community. Not only did he send constant, annoying, and disruptive messages on my server, he tried to steal my loyal players for your server. Now, I don't expect you to punish mars236 on your server for what he did on mine. Minecraft is an open game, and the freedom to do what one desires is intrinsic to its appeal. With this freedom, in a multiplayer environment, comes a responsibility to respect other players' space and freedom.

That being said, I know you can't control all of your players all of the time. I know that what your players do on other servers is completely out of your control and should be none of your business. A server staff stays within that server, not exceeding its power limitations. Excessive control drives players away, limits the freedom that comes with Minecraft, and removes the fun from the game, so I would respect the fact that you can't control your players on my server.

However, after I banned said player, one of my other staff members returned from a visit to your server. He stated that the Moderators of your server were telling people to go advertise on other servers. I was shocked by this accusation. I thought, "Surely a server of this size and statue wouldn't intentionally send its players to other, smaller servers in an effort to gain more players."

Staff members of a server represent that server as a whole. While I do not know which specific Moderators have partaken in this disgraceful activity, they are still the facade of the server. This is an extremely immature and disrespectful thing to do. While digging through your lengthy, over-complicated rules, I did find a clause strictly prohibiting advertising.

Isn't this hypocritical?

Upon further investigation of your website, I can deduce that your server strives for excellence. Hypocrisy is not a characteristic of excellence. Your Moderators should not be dispatching your loyal players out on an advertising mission that, if performed on your own server, would be frowned upon. This is a disgrace to your prestige. If you truly strive for excellence, players will come to your server regardless.

In sending your players to other servers, you clearly do not respect the servers' places in the Minecraft community. While the player, mars236, is not necessarily representative of your server, your staff members are. Re-think your place in the Minecraft community, and learn to respect other servers. No, you don't have to respect them as much as you do your own. You've put many hours of hard work and dedication into your server. However, it is essential to realize that there are staff members of other servers that have done the same to theirs.
