People wouldn't beg for attention if they actually got some in the first place.

 

What you're saying is that we're supposed to give up everything we do and give people attention all the time.
We're players, too. We make money and play the game just like you guys do, do you always pay attention to chat when you're building, farming, playing sg, etc? No? Well, neither do we. PMs are how you usually grab my and most other staffmember's attention, but there are many situations where we can't respond or don't notice it, for example, I can't always help you when I'm playing an SG match, I try, but I simply can't. I also can't give people attention when I'm away getting a drink or something.
I'm not a superhuman being that can pay attention to chat and focus on something else at once, no one can focus on two different things.

We're human, at least have some realistic expectations from us.

Most staffmembers do interact with people, in some cases the people a couple of staffmembers spoke to became staffmembers themselves. But I know enough staffmembers who have a little group of friends, or a party where they chat a lot in, I myself talk to staff, some people on skype and just in global. You yourself only see what's going on in global chat, you can't see what goes on in local chat, skype or party chat.
Also, you can't be friends with everyone, of course, you could talk in global every once in a while, but not everyone can do that, personalities differ, there are people who don't have a reason to talk in global, they have nothing to talk about, they usually talk to a close group of people, their comfort zone so to speak.
You can't force people outside of their comfort zone.

As for the in-game behaviour, being kind to people isn't how you control a bunch of trolls, kids, etc.
Believe me, I've tried when the server was still smaller and it had nearly no effect, right now the servers 2 to 3 times bigger and chat's a mess, if we were to be kind to people then people would not take it seriously, people would just continue.

It's not that we don't see it as an enjoyable game, we enjoy the game to the fullest, but we also have to deal with all the mess that happens on the server, we're the people who keep the server enjoyable for the rest of you, it's what we do and we won't stop doing it.

Everyone goes quiet because staffmembers have power, they're afraid of doing things wrong, regardless of who the staffmember is. This is not the staff's fault, this is a a simple psychological reaction to someone who holds power over you.

You could've just gone unnoticed. Also, would you say hi to everyone who says hi to you? I always get like 4-5 people who say hi to me, I can't simply respond to all of them personally, I simply say hi once and that's it.

I generally avoid global channels on vent because it's usually noisy, and sometimes there are some obnoxious people on there. I sometimes go to the global channels when I'm not listening to music, on skype and when it's quiet in there.
I don't like noise and I don't know many who do, I used to go in the global channels all the time, the people were mature, quiet and would let each other finish talking before they themselves talk.
I don't see that any more, whenever I go into a global channel I only notice noise, headache inducing noise, and when I leave for another global channel some people will follow and eventually everyone will end up in there, producing noise again. I can't stay in global channels because of it, this is why I'm usually on skype or in the staff channel.

 

I pay attention to chat always.

I don't expect mods to always talk to us, I just want mods to talk more other than telling someone to not do something. I'm sure in staff chat there are plenty of conversations.

 

Not really, usually it's fairly quiet in there. I have more conversations in global than I do in staff chat.

Heading back to the original post I think the staff does a great job and perform to the best of their abilities considering what they deal with. Just think what they have to deal with whenever they're online. Also as kuke said they make money too, add in mod duties and you've got very little time to start up a conversation with your friends and enjoy yourself and you expect them to want to talk to someone who stirs up trouble? Personally I don't want to associate myself with someone on ecc who can't follow some basic rules on vent and on the server itself. Now onto the whole vent part what turned me away was the amount of people on here who just bug people, some of them you named. Not to mention getting more people on vent would most likely turn others away who may already have vent but now won't use it.

Anyway to me the staff is great and I feel like your trying to make vent even more chaotic then it already is.

It is very offensive when your comment was inveteeen the other two. They could have just said "hi" but they chose to use names and it is not very nice.
Staff are great I just wish they would have more fun with us :)

Personally I can understand being scared of staff, you're right, it's a natural reaction. I myself, I'm not scared of staff, when they're in global, in fact I'd much rather by with staff then everyone else, it makes me feel safer since most people tend to dislike me, and those who don't dislike me don't tend really talk much. I just like it better. But there are often times where I'll be in a different chat and a staff member like Nico pops in to check up, and the room goes quiet once people notice he's in there. Really makes me feel bad for the staff, you can't have good ol' conversations like you used to.

I could understand your point of view on noise, I've been in channels with like 20 people in them and you really can't talk at all without interrupting someone else, usually in those channels it's only one group of people really talking anyway. It's loud and obnoxious and I don't much like it myself either, but you can't prevent it from happening. Recently Ventrilo has been more quiet, I think because a few members that were on there often got banned, so. I mean I'd love to see more people in Ventrilo, some new people and all but I wouldn't really want "events" in Ventrilo, seems too far and people would just sign up then, log on, and never go on again. :p

I feel like so many people (especially what your saying AgentHare ) are putting these expectations on staff as if it was they're job too say hi to every single person they see. They happen to be the people who have stepped up and taken the role of moderating the server and they still manage to have conversations with a lot of the people while not doing mod business. Just for example everyone knows officepwnz123 poor guy gets a billion messages while he's playing on ecc and being the nice person he is replies to just about every single one of them but that takes up so much of his time add in mod duties, which are going to take priority over social stuff and you won't be able to reply to all the people. This is what mods have to deal with so don't be mad they don't reply be happy when if ever they do because they've taken their time to do it. As the server grows they get less and less time for social so that is why they may not be as social as when you first started playing but they do their best.

Hi back. My expectations are high because everyone looks up to them. If 3 people say hi, why say hi to 2/3 people. Personally I want to talk to mods because of the prejudice and against residents and builders and its hard to be heard as a Resident. The least they could do is say hi back.
Or f everyone says hi, simply say "hi" and dot include names.

We do not have a prejudice towards residents or builders in fact I spent 90% of my job helping residents and builders. The fact is we actually talk to residents and builders quite a bit. We help them understand town apps, how to file complaints, etc. We are the people who help residents and builders get to become more independant mayors and presidents.

Please understand that staff are here to help. If you truly want to talk to staff, PM staff. I, for example, am far more likely to respond to PM social calls than global ones.

 

That's what I meant. It is nearly impossible to talk to mayors+ so residents tend to want attention from mods. Often when you talk to Mayors+ you get ignored or a sassy remark (BLtwitch)

 

It isn't impossible seeing that you are resident you dont get to see us. Once you gain a rank, you gain more respect and with that you get more busy so you aren't ignored we are just busy allot. I often ignore Builders when they ask outrages questions like spamming me with, "can i have money?" I just tend to ignore these comments. Or if you are bltwitch and you do spam her once complaints will be filed
