As many times as i opened it, had 3 other players try too.
Result:
Not fixed, books and quill can be opened but not typed in

Books should be able to be written in

I wrote a book as recent as a week and a half ago so it had to have been since then.

To be helpful: Books can be copied into book and quills, they just can't be written in.

I have found that if you flip to the second page of the book, then back to the first, you should be able to write in it then.

Interesting.
I've added this to my to-do list so I can attempt to debug it on our test server.
I am able to reproduce this myself as well. When flipping to the second page then back to the first you are able to write fine though. o_O-

I believe this is now fixed (was an issue with our support for 1.8-1.11.2 clients).
Please let me know if you continue to experience this problem.
