Username : Volvith Description : So with the implementation of hex colours, i and a couple others have been noticing more lag server-side, and i specifically have been noticing a LOT of delay between chat messages being send client side on my end, and appearing server side in the chat box. (i'm talking 3-6 seconds). I'm pretty sure it's just the hex codes causing lag, something fucky going on with the backend translation of them. Instructions : 1. Pick a nickname, any nickname, but make it long. 2. For every single character, give a new hex code. Bonus points if you also make it bolt and italic. 3. Apply nickname. 4. Spam server with chat. 5. Get muted because everyone hates you because you're lagging the server. 6. ??? 7. Profit Evidence : Apply this nick and see for yourself: &#a70000&o&lT&#a70000&o&lh&#a70000&o&li&#a70000&o&ls&#a70000&o&lI&#a70000&o&ls&#a70000&o&lA&#a70000&o&lT&#a70000&o&le&#a70000&o&ls&#a70000&o<&#a70000&o&li&#a70000&o&lN&#a70000&o&li&#a70000&o&lc&#a70000&o&lk&#a70000&o&lU&#a70000&o&lW&#a70000&o&lU Findings : So far in my brief testing, i've noticed a couple quirks: - Any hex code causes lag, the more the worse the lag is. - No 'vanilla' codes contribute to the lag. - Minecraft version does not seem to alleviate the lag when typing in chat. - Whether it's one colour repeatedly or more doesn't matter (potential hint towards future optimization of hex translation?). EDIT : I think this might have also contributed in the mining n-star event crash a bit back, considering quite a number of users, iirc, were chatting with hex-nicks, myself included.
Fixed. Removed the worst plugin we've ever had once and for all, caused dozens of issues, this was the final straw. Fuck InteractiveChat. Never again am I adding bullshit to ECC.
