Evidence: I can record the issue if needed, but it is pretty straight forward.
Yeah, that is the how the auto-pickup mechanics work currently. It currently only works on blocks you break and not other blocks that break as a result of a supporting block being broken. If you were to experiment with similar mechanics on other blocks, such as Sugarcane, nether vine variants and Kelp you would see the same results.
