I hate it, so much. Right before 1.1 came out I tried a server with mcmmo for the first time and people suggested I get spoutcraft which I did. A nice thing to have as I could turn off weather and bedrock fog, halleujah. Only drawback was not being able to see your coordinates but since most places have the command /getpos not a big deal. Sadly spoutcraft doesn't seem to work since patch 1.1 and I have been told its very slow to update. How hard is it to find a server plugin that disables it? Really with it on you lose about 23% of your viable building area on a normal map with a 127 height limit. It seems to fully kick in at 19 and below, but gradually begins I believe around y:30. Plus it might possibly reduce lag to have it. I am not sure if it causes any but you would think so. I actually created a twitter account when it was stealth added around patch 1.7 I believe to message notch and Jeb about it. I have messaged them sporadically asking why it was introduced and if it could be set to optional, sadly neither has ever replied. I don't know anyone beside Jeb that likes it and many have been bummed at losing visibility in underground cities and buildings. I hate mining since it came out and used to love making hidden cities and a nice mining base.

 

What do you mean by normal client? Not to be uber-noobin but I haven't done addons and such until couple weeks ago because I have an ancient pc Abe Lincoln built and I am greatful to play the game, didn't want to stress it and kill it by adding on anything so I play it as basic as possible, current addons in use.... 0. No textures, nothin. So far I just cut and paste into the .minecraft folder. I am sure there is a program that will check for updates and install things for me automatically but I haven't found it yet or got it to work properly so its manual for me.

 

Found it, downloaded it, 1.0_HD_A and now when I start mc, its black screen without even getting the mojang logo. Does it work for you guys? You have a link to where you got the version you are using? I gotta delete and reinstall the old minecracky now.

 

Deleted the meta-inf like they all tell you to do when installing. Could not find a newer version then 1.0, I don't see the preview update you mention at the top of this thread.
