The problem with this is that once you get people there (Which is no easy task, might I add) you could just auction it in local. That "it" could be a chest with dirt in it, and not only this, you're wasting peoples time even MORE by having them be teleported there, to bid on a chest with one dirt in it. There are ways around just banning it from auction chat. People will find a way.
Its annoying but people simply not participating in them would essentially ban them. Its less of a scam then mayors "selling" plots to poor saps and then evicting them without notice or refund. At least with a stack of dirt they got something for their money.
I couldn't care less if some fool falls for a scam. I just don't want to see it in global trade or auction chat. I though mine wars was a rip off and I smelled scam so I left, but hey some found it fun and went and bid. If someone wants to do mystery box tomfoolery in local let them, as long as it's away from spawn and and my towns and associated neighboring towns. I do not use auction chat but I used to buy and sell all the time. Now it's just annoying and this is one of the reasons.
People were talking about minewars so thus I created it, thought i'd jump in. I set up minewars for it to be fair, these mystery items are sometimes fair and sometimes arn't, it all depends on who's doing it, some people will just change the item of choice for the prize depending on the price it went for. It's fair because people know or atleast SHOULD know the risks on bidding on these said "Mystery" auctions and know that they might be in it for a scam and should think twice before bidding on it, which is why Minewars and these mystery auctions are the same in a way, you never know what you're bidding on. But people know (Or atleast I hope they do) that Minewars isn't a scam, I think it's the own users responsibillity to ensure before they bid on the Mystery auction that it's not a scam.
Well, I think the best thing to do, is to prevent Mystery Auctions from being held in most channels, except for Local. Let them have their mystery auctions out in the wild, in Local Chat.
i personally am against the mystery auctions. it closes out other auction being only one is allowed at a time usually. it floods auction making so that there iisnt any good things up for sale anymore. hell, ive seen builders make tons of money off of this. they tell their peeps bout it then it spreads like a disease. - SonnyCPretzel (i only did that so if i search my name itll go to this forum)
Main problem for this is the lack of credit ability, someone can quickly switch the items. Regardless of their rank/reputation this shouldn't be allowed, it is pretty much retracting a bid from an auction.
Well, all I have to say is that, the Majority agree that Mystery Auctions should be banned. Who do we have to contact to get this notion through?
