Honestly, "rip that person's eff7" would probably have been my response too.

 

Alright, I've done a lot of reading past two days about this stuff, and I'd like to put a few thoughts here if that's okay.

As a happily retired staff member from yesteryears ago, I have my own, fairly strong opinions about any staff member being involved in user-run businesses where the lead user is not currently a staff member, even if they used to be one, and especially if they're really really close friends. I think it gets messy, I personally think that some (not a lot) of non-staff users like to use staff members for a sort of "legitimizing" look, and certainly can and do drag them down with them from time to time. I've seen it personally and had to deal with much more minor cases of it. This in my opinion is probably the worst I've ever seen in that realm of problems on the server.
Personally, if it were a perfect world, I don't feel that any staff member should be involved in a business run by their friend, as I do feel that it skews their objectivity and can lead to situations like the one you're in at the moment, but I understand that this is a game and involvement in any business by any member of the community is absolutely fine, and you probably were already involved before getting staff, however;

I feel like you had at least some of a responsibility as a staff member involved in this business to kinda keep an eye on things, especially being as close to obble as you were. No, maybe you didn't know what was going on. No, maybe you really did have absolutely no idea what obble's intentions were. Do I think you as both a staff member and obble's friend had the ability to find out these things, or at least get a hint of them? I absolutely do. Do I think you let your friendship with obble make you at least a little biased/perhaps oblivious? Again, absolutely.
Should you be on the hook for all of it? No, because even as a staff member, you cannot control other people or the decisions they make, and while I do think that you could've done more in this case to avoid landing yourself here, I'm a huge advocate of "other people's actions are their own responsibility," which I think applies here as well.

Do I think you should be punished for any of this? Yes, but not in the form of a permanent ban. I feel like the biggest thing that has been compromised on your part here is your integrity as a staff member when it comes to being objective during gameplay, and I don't think that you'd be sitting in the exact position you're in if you weren't blue at the time, though you'd probably still be in hot water. I'd like to see you come back to the server because I do believe you will do your part to solve the issues revolving around this and again become a working member of the community, I've always felt you were strong in that pursuit. Do I think you should come back to staff? Not in the foreseeable future, and I don't know if/when my opinion on that may change, but you'll definitely have a lot of image-fixing to do before I'd even consider it an option for you again.

So my questions to you today are: Do you feel like your objectivity about VoE was compromised in any way due to your friendship with obble? Also, do you feel that if you had actually seen the clues that something was going to go south, you would've acted on them, or at least reported them to a more experienced staff member? And perhaps the straight up, direct question I'm getting at here: Were you at all biased as a staff member in your dealings with VoE, intentionally or not?

 

Nothing you did hurt anyone? How about @ldw116 when you approved your "friend's" invalid contract? I mean it was discovered later that ldw's very same investment was then loaned out to you and that you were late paying it back. Of course your friend would never think of filing a complaint on you and getting you banned for loan scamming, after all what kind of friend would he be? But then that caused more problems because it wasn't Obble's money to decide how long you could keep it. If you were truly innocent in any of VOE's dealings, as a trusted staff member, you should have stepped forward and taken the ban you deserved, same as ldw. You both failed to pay Obble (VOE) a loan back on time and it's completely unfair that ldw had to take the ban and you didn't. You can spew about how you "didn't know" and "didn't hurt anyone" or even "it's not that big of a deal", but you see, you did hurt someone, you knew, and it was such a big deal that an SA had to come in and clean it up for you... It also sparked a suggestion about staff members being involved in situation, not being able to handle things related to them.

I sat by watching you mess things up, not only in this VOE (Obble) thing, but in your everyday staff duties. You dismissed a complaint when the evidence was very clear he should have been banned for attempted scamming. This same user ended up actually scamming 2 other people. Now I'm not saying that if you would have banned him for attempted scamming that he wouldn't have scammed the other 2 people, but you could have at least tried! The guy gave Mason a transaction ID# from 2014, when you asked why, his answer of "it was a bit random, I know" was good enough for you? Not to mention that Mason suspected him of being an alt and you never once bothered to question why a 'new member' even had a transaction ID# from 2 years ago. ;

I seen it then and I can see it in your answers here, how lightly you took being a staff member, it's like you took it as a joke. Personally I will never trust you again. You deflect and put all the blame on Obble, you play off the 'small' things you did do as insignificant things that doesn't matter at all. You truly lost any respect that I've had for you. Not because of what you claim was all Obble's doing, but because of what YOU did, KNOWINGLY. As for if I feel you should be unbanned, sure all people make mistakes and deserve a chance to right them, to prove themselves. However, you need a week or two to reflect and I feel you should not be allowed to apply for staff again for 6 months (double the time because you already can't apply for 3 months with being banned). I will not reply anymore to this as I've said all I needed/wanted to. I've made my points, asked my questions, said my opinion, now I wish you luck!

A lil advice. It's frown upon for staff members to go afk, maybe you should stop using something you did wrong to justified something else you did wrong. It's not helping your case, if anything it's hurting it more.

Okay, sir here's a question. Why did you say these things? Am I wrong in stating that if you really wanted to come back, you would do these things WHILE banned so that the victims that you "couldn't prevent" from becoming victims, could get what they deserve?

 

He is saying, (in xboy speak) that while they could have been pushed there, it is extremely unlikely that they would both happen to be afk and facing the same way all at the same time.

 

Seeing as you deny leaking anything other than a joke, please explain how this is in my possession. (Note: the unedited version has been sent to the SAs, this is the version I edited to comply with confidentiality rules.)

Actually Fury, what @matrix_rep said about you not paying your loan back is very much his business. As a community we were told to get every single piece of information out of you, so why the hell did you delay paying back your loan for so long? You knew you were screwing people over. Heck, I'll even bet that you were 100% involved in the Obblebobble/VoE scam and you planned to take this "loan" just to give obble time to rack up more scam money. Don't lie. It won't get you anywhere. Give us proof of you attempting to pay this loan back, but until then we'll hold this against you.

 

Yeah, I'd like some answers about your debt as well. Especially so considering you had money you loaned to tomkc not so long ago. You could've easily worked to pay off the debt, but you didn't and obble let it happen. Sounds fishy to me.

 

After reading the appeal, I have three main things

1) As a bookkeeper, you should have been making sure that and investments that wanted to be withdrawn were, as well as keeping up with what Obble and TH had in their accounts from investors. While you can't get their actual bal (to my knowledge), have a "Amount held by user" and "Amount Loaned via User".

2) Yes, you may be friends, but any signs like that should be taken seriously, especially in the contexts the signs were in (Obble leaving)

3) I don't care how trivial you think it is, you should never leak something that is not intended for everyone, even if the person you gave it to was once staff themselves.

I feel that, while a perma shoudn't be the punishment, you do need sometime away.

 

As Andrewkm has stated that he will leave your fate to the community to be decided, I will cast my vote. If this isn't a democratic decision, disregard it.
