    time to copy/paste this again...

    no...but the culture is.

When someone says "canada" you think of what?
    cold?
    hockey?
yea..but you also think of tim hortons.

This isn't about the change, this is about the meaning. Canadians are patriotic. We love all things canadian. So when one of our biggest loves as a nation loses its special pure canadian touch just because the owners are greedy pigs...it's heartbreaking.

but it is still the genuine Tim Hortons managed by the same guys doing the same thing and having the same employees. literally nothing is different. this isnt a thing about patriotism or anything. this is just people finding a reason to complain about a problem that doesnt exist. (or a problem you create in your head..)

the only differences is that the company is owned by burger king. but thats not something that matters. youre creating a problem out of thin air..

no. im german. does that matter? no.

Because Burger King bought the whole company for 12,000,000,000+ USD, to not change anything about it?

No. Tim hortons is not doing to be managed by the same guys. The menu will be changed. That article is out-of-date. Local newspapers (in canada) are reporting on it a WHOLE lot more than anywhere else.

Onto your patriotism statement. You CANNOT argue with me on something that you DO NOT KNOW. You have NOT been to Canada, you are NOT canadian, therefore you CANNOT pretend to know about canadian patriotism. Perhaps you don't know of tim hortons history. A famous (canadian) hockey (canadian) player, Tim Horton founded it. Canadian born, Canadian raised, Canadian loved.

And now, three quotes from the story "Timmies through the year"

"Tim Hortons has grown from a doughnut shop in a small repurposed garage in east Hamilton to a nationwide restaurant chain and part of Canada's cultural fabric. CBC Hamilton looks back at the past 50 years of Tim Hortons (or Tim Horton Donuts, as it was originally known) and the legacy it has created."

"As Canadians, we're a little bit insecure culturally, given U.S. media and cultural domination," he said. So "whether it's the CBC -- our TV network -- hockey [or] Olympic victory, we cling to our remaining cultural icons. Tim's is one of them."

"It's just well loved because it's cheap, it's relaxed, it's homey, and most importantly everyone has lots of memories associated with it. It's a restaurant you can go to for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, just to study, or just to get a refreshment. It's an all purpose restaurant and you can go anywhere in the country and get that taste of home."

im stating what i think based on what has been showed me in THIS THREAD.
The article that was linked stated specifically that NOTHING WOULD CHANGE. So excuse me for forming conclusions based on what YOU linked me.

i think patriotism is a silly thing regardless of where you live or how you feel culturally. that statement was not an insult towards you or canadians nor was it intended as one. it was a general statement made around MY OPINION.

i state my opinion on the situation based around the facts that you gave me and then you get angry because my opinion happens to be the opposite of yours. its ridiculous.

youre the one who linked it and that was yesterday. so sorry for thinking that was up-to-date information. :|

The link is to show people one thing. That burger king has purchase tim hortons. I did not think that I would have to update it, or that people would respond with such backlash. And one day can mean the world for a developing story. It can be the difference between war and peace, things change on a dime, so therefore, so does the news. The title is a joke, but my feelings towards it are not.

That would have been nice to know. Try to slip that in next time you say something that could be considered an insult.

I got angry because you started to insult to insult me and accusing me of
I was politely debating and trying to teach you why I felt the way I felt, but yes, I will respond bitterly if provoked. If you still wish to have a polite debate with me on this issue then I am all for it. If don't want to, then please leave the thread.

I understand your points and why you think that way, but I disagree with them, and there's nothing you can say that will change that.

    EH?
I don't even like Tim's that much, but I do respect it so this was a WOW moment for me when I heard the news. I'm utterly disappointed in Tim's.

I love Tim Horton's, even as American. Burger King has good stuff, but otherwise it's barely above average. (Not my preferred taste of food.)

However, Tim Horton's probably will not change much at all. Just like when anything else major gets bought by someone else who is major, medias EXPLODE with opinions phrased as facts. Unless Burger King, in your Canadian media, has explicitly stated they are making [major] changes, there probably will not be any.

Some people I follow on social media (Canadians and Americans; even Europeans) were making good statements about taxes being involved. Buying [the] Tim Horton's [name] apparently allows them some way to move their HQ (if they want to), spread Burger King itself, reduce taxes, etc. I don't know all the politics and economics behind it, but many other companies have apparently been doing that for many years. /shrugs

Many many US companies moved their headquarters to Canada or other countries after a tax hike. Simply in order to avoid paying the high tax rate of 40%. In result, strengthening the economy of countries other than the US. Many Congress members refer to those companies as "Benedict Arnold Corporations". Benedict Arnold was a member of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, he was a bold and courageous hero but decided to betray his country after not being satisfied with compensation for his acts of valor.

Warren Buffet calls those companies "Corporate Deserters".

Paul Ryan wants to reduce taxes so that American companies will get bigger profits. In result, keeping America at the top. But Warren Buffet opposes that idea of tax reform and wants high taxes. I can't seem to understand why. But I bet he has a great reason.

I just wanted to add some more detail. :)
