Well, I'm not an SG player myself, but I've got a couple tips that may or may not be helpful.
- As soon as the game starts, get loot from spawn chests and run away as fast as possible. Abuse the Grace Period, nobody can hurt you for 60 seconds so going mid is a good way to get free loot right off the bat.
- Don't stalk people off Spawn. Unless you have a kit, it's better to just look around for chests and loot up. Once you've got a good sword (stone/iron) and have some decent armor, then you can start hunting other players.
- Some PvP tips in general, try to get behind other players when you fight, you'll be able to get hits on them while their back is turned. Keep your eyes peeled, look around frequently to make sure no one is sneaking up on you. Always make sure your hunger bar is full. Keep your inventory uncluttered and your weapons easy to access (1 or 2 hotkey). Always equip your best armor.
- Finally, if you're really interested in becoming a exceptional SG'er, consider investing in kits! They are extremely helpful at getting a head start over other players.

My suggestion, get PvP training. It should help your game.
btw, I hit the wrong button the poll :( Didn't mean the epic fail one. -

Over a year on ECC and only two or three wins right here. I was bad at sg even before kits ruined it

Stats are misleading, if you truly believe, you shall always succeed!
-
1. Strafe
2. If you see someone is better than you then don't fight
3. Collect arrows, sticks, and strings and make a bow if you don't have a kit or a fishing rod for PvP. Sadly I am the only one as far as I know to use a fishing rod.
4. Go train by 1v1ing people and learn your mistakes
5. Strategize, one of the biggest parts of SG
6. Learn to use a fishing rod in combat, it helps by giving you that one extra hit during a fight
7. Critical hits - Jump and then while falling hit the player only do this the first hit or else you will jump and be knocked back -

Inventory
I would keep 2 food items in your inventory. (steak/cooked pork/cooked chicken and apples)
Keep your arrows in ur hot bar.
Put your sword in slot 2 with food on either side.
Put whatever you like in extra slots.
Never take things you dont need. Do not take things out of chests like multiple pieces of leather/gold armor, string and sticks (if you already have a bow), and wooden/gold swords.
Finding Things
Some maps we use in our SG are very commonly used maps. Go on YouTube and or Google and try to find the names of the maps. Once this is done, go on youtube and watch some videos done over these maps. You will learn many hideouts, chest routes, and strategies within videos.
Never go for the cornucopia (middle). Even though you have a 60 sec grace period, you will still miss many if not all outside chests. Skip the middle and go run your route. You will most likely be the first to chests.
Don't fight people over chests. Of there is someone trailing right behind/in front of you, skip the next chest. This will give you a boost (because they will stop for that chest).
Try not to take 'the road most traveled.' You will most likely be able to find another route people don't follow much. (this will allow the ability to get more chests as well as not get pummeled by 4, 5, or 6 people when the Grace Period ends.)
PvP
If you see a user that is bound to run from you, try to trick them. Only hold out your hand (don't show weapons) and and skittish.
Use your best weapons (duh :p)
Make sure to be alert. Do not chat or reply to people. Take advantage of /ch afk
When battling with a user, it is best to run circles around them. If you try to weave, jump, and run around them, they will most likely miss most of their swings. (make sure you don't miss most of yours, though!)
Don't use gold swords. They do just as much damage as wooden swords, but they often break while battling (and you don't want that to happen!)
Always pay attention to your weapon/armor durability. You wouldn't want to break your whole armor set and your weapons while fighting.
Eating
Never 'over-eat'. Make sure you use as little food as possible. Example - If you have 3 hungers down, eat one apple and one fish or 2 raw pork. Not a steak or two apples.
Always make sure your hunger bar is full. You can barely regenerate while you have any hunger down, and you always need to have as many hearts as possible.
Never leave food behind in a chest.
Never sprint jump when not needed. Especially when running low on food.
Strategies
Come up with a game plan. Always know what your going to be doing next.
There are many different strategies for sg. You can find a spot that is only accessed by one point and camp that point. You can run around the edges of the map and try to get loners. You always want to avoid teamers. You never want to sit in or be around the middle. This is just a kit-user galore. You can sometimes hide for the duration of the time (i would recommend not doing so if you aren't set-up properly for a fight).
I would recommend making or joining a sg clan. Also, you can team with other users for an advantage (never ask for a team in local -- normally you will not get a good user as a teammate)
Kits
If you want to boost your wins/kills dramatically, buy kits. If you do not have the extra money to buy these kits, save up ECD and pay another user to buy them for you.
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT....
Never, never, ever ever never, let a user cut you down and make you feel bad. Dont let 'Hacker!' or 'You suck' make you feel bad. Power though it. The other person is proably just jelly :p
Omg! I forgot to add,
to get hitboxes around users and entities, press 'f3' and 'b' at the same time.
This is one of the things that helps me the most in sg -- when you click 'f3', you can see at the top left-ish there is a thing that says E: (number)/(number). The 'E:' stands for entity. And the "(number)/(number)" stands for (entities in view)/(entities available and/or in view)
That may be confusing, so let me explain. An entity is a player or a ground item (so i think [thats how it is in this f3]). So basicaly what we have here is a rough player tracker (legally). When you go to a place with no people/items near, the E: thing will be 'E: 0/1'. But, when you throw an item infront of you, it will be 'E: 1/2'. If you threw an item in front of you, and then looked away, it would be 'E: 0/2'. This works for players and entities.
Now, how would you apply this nifty legal entities tracker? Say you were in sg, looking for someone. Your thing says 'E: 0/1', which means no one is near. But suddenly, it changes to 'E: 0/2'. This means there may be a potential user near by. To find the direction of the user, look all around you untill it jumps to 'E: 1/2', the start heading that way. Make sure you keep at at 'E: 1/2', because the user maybe running in a different direction.
Btw, i will add to this along the way.
Hope this helped everyone and was easily understood! :)
