In Game Name: Zylo31What part of EcoCityCraft is this suggestion for: All Main ServersShort title for your suggestion: Racist PeopleWhat are you suggesting: Auto Perm ban people who use racial/derogatory terms (n-word, faggot, chink,)Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?: It has been happening more and more recently and this is not needed. A temp mute/temp band does NOT deter these people. They come back and try to get around it by saying other words such as (nig niggy, etc)Other information: Plugin or custom addition: One suggestion per form: I Understand.
Permaban seems excessive. They may misunderstand the rule of inappropriate words being allowed without excessive usage as allowing racial slurs as well, even when the rules are very clear about that. A reading of the rules and a ban appeal could easily be enough to get them to stop using such terms on the server, and allow them to rejoin the community and be a good member of it as well. I was wondering if the server could simply auto-ban anyone that uses obvious slurs like the n-word in any of the public chats (Global, trade, auction, trivia, vip, etc), though maybe not local because as I understand it, local is a bit of an odd one when it comes to what is/is not allowed. Personally I'm fine with the current system where moderators keep an eye out for such behavior, but it is a thought. -1
While I recognize such terms as being racist or wrong to say, I believe people have the right to say them in a private setting, so I don't really agree with a chat-wide filter.
If we're automatically banning for messages only in those chats, then I would assume we could only filter in those chats as well.
Reasonable. I'm not necessarily sure if a filter gets the message across quite the same as a ban does, but it would help the issue at the very least.
Just to add, "faggot" and "fag" have multiple meanings (especially in the UK) - it's hardly used in a derogatory way here. Filtering/auto banning is a bad idea anyway so -1.
How many people who come on and drop racial slurs in chat genuinely have no clue what they're doing? And how many people would still have no clue once they're blocked from doing so? (which I might add, isn't an issue if they can't use it in the first place). Not entirely convinced by this logic of "it's a learning experience". The entire reason why racial slurs are an instant mute in the first place is because basically 99% of the time, people who use them quit afterwards or end up banned/permanently muted anyways. I personally went through each case and collected data on it before deciding to change the guidelines in that regard last summer.
Thank you for your input. Staff will discuss how to proceed. Personally I think things are fine as it is. Staff are doing a great job.
