I have an addiction. A gambling addiction. I've found out that this is affecting my everyday life (I lost $10 in a bet irl yesterday)... and ECC is the root of my problem. I'm asking all of you, anyone willing to help.. Please help me end this here, before it gets worse and spreads more. I ask for nothing but your help of guiding me along the right path... thank you for hearing me out.
-Sincerely, Aidanator12321 .

One simple step you could try is to do /lot messages to remove all lottery notifications... not much but it's a start. :)

^ Great advice from mylosilver.
Just do that command and you won't receive lot messages anymore.-

Yes, but... even then I just can't stop thinking about how I could play it, how I could win.
However, thanks for the advice. -
Trust me, it helps. I've had to use that command a few times to avoid wasting money on lotto. :p

Just do the math. The lottery is a game no one wins. It is rigged because of the tax. Even at no tax it is a zero sum game.
Play it for fun, but if you think you can get ahead by playing, then you are setting yourself up for failure.-

Take me for example. I feel that keeping my money in signs prevent me from playing the lotto. I want to, but I don't at the same time. I'm not saying that keeping money in signs is a good way to stop your addiction, but that's what helps me, even though it isn't recommended.

You don't have special luck, the brute strength of statistics is more powerful than you. you are wasting your money.

Just think of all the money I've taken from you. That should help:p

Think about how much you will lose, not how much you could win.

I remember when I always used to play lotto. I won some, and then I lost some. For users who are fairly new to the lotto on ecc, it takes time for them to realize that lotto isnt worth it. Think of it like this, you are working hard for money, then losing it in lotto to another user. If you think about it, the past hour you used to make money was just a waste of time.
Also, never sell donation features for money just to play lotto. There should be something you want to spend with that money, not just for playing the lotto and losing your money. If you think about it, it's just like gambling in casinos irl when you sell donation features to players and lose it to lotto 5 seconds later.

Whether it is gambling, risk taking, smoking, drugs, or just searching for adventure, all forms of obsession that result with pleasure are the same physiological condition of addiction. You're problem isn't with gambling. It is your obsession with this format of thrill seeking. You are merely most familiar with gambling.
To really defeat your gambling addiction, you need to defeat your obsession with thrill seeking to unhealthy levels. Who decides what is unhealthy? You already have.
How do you ween yourself off? There are two ways.
1) Substitute your biochemical addiction with activities that are not deemed destructive. Find other activities that give you that same interest and pleasure. Sports, workouts, model building, studying.
2) Reduce your interest in activities that produce the addictive biochemicals, like detoxing or gradually weening yourself off something, akin to a diet.
In my own life, I have one all encompassing rule. Everything in moderation. I evaluate my chanced of success with most risks. If success is not likely, I do not do it, because if I feel it is a risk that needs evaluation, it probably is not something that I am committed to accepting the losses.
So what I would suggest is getting in the habit of evaluating your actions, and do what is sound.-

Here is a personal story...
Tonight I logged onto ecc with about 500k. I just came on to say hi to everyone and check in. I noticed that there was over 250k in lotto, so I thought to myself, eh 100 tickets wont hurt. Needless to say I lost. The next lotto also got pretty high, and to try and recoup my money, I put 200 tickets in. I lost again. I logged off to try to keep my dignity and money, but alas, a few hours later I was back online ready to "win more lottos." At the end of the day I had 20k.
Don't be an office.
I've been playing for over a year and I can vouch that /lot messages and keeping your mind off lotto (i.e playing hunger games, actively building something) can really help.
Good luck and best wishes!
