Greetings,
I know we aren't supposed to update to 1.6 when it comes out. We need to wait until ECC is 1.6 compliant. My question is in regards to the launcher. Is it going to cause any known issues to use the new launcher?
So should I upgrade and use the new launcher, or should I wait on that as well?
Thanks in advance.
- Adieu.

Hello Emau,
While looking into I do not see any reason why it would prevent you from joining the server as the launcher doesn't seem to modify any of the game coding, though I cannot confirm that it will not cause any issues. To be safe, I would advise that you either do not update the launcher, or keep a working back-up of Minecraft 1.5 so you are still able to join the server while it is waiting to upgrade to 1.6. -

Since 1.6 uses a completely different launcher that you have to download separately you can play ECC on normal 1.5 with the old launcher until ECC updates and then use the new launcher. So you can play 1.6 on the new launcher and not have to worry about the old launcher's data, the old launcher will stay 1.5. I know because I was playing both 1.6 and 1.5 at the same time earlier today :p

Considering 1.6 hasn't been officially released, I'm sure you weren't playing it today. :p Perhaps you were playing the latest snapshot/pre-release. Just messing with you. ;)
But I appreciate the info that you are saying: unlike all previous versions, upgrading to 1.6 doesn't overwrite 1.5.
While I do not think there will be an issue, and I have recently read that I can use the old version in the new launcher, I am still going to do it all at once, AFTER ECC becomes 1.6 compliant, just to be safe.
I have already backed up 1.5.2 for any issues that may arise.
Thanks for both replies. Informative. Definitely going to be an interesting update.
