So a question.. can those of us that have not updated.. do so? Meaning no risk to server going back up without 1.3?
I doubt that this server uses 100% of the resources it has access to in the system. So here's a question: Why not, in future updates, have an updated test server that you add the updated plugins to in order to test them? That way, you could check for compatibility issues/bugs while the normal server is still running? It would help further reduce downtime, and when you are ready to update, it's as simple as copying the test server to the main server.
Actually he does understand. It is you who is misinformed. If we use a test server, we would have to test it on the server and than copy it over to our main server, with this we skip a step and therefor it is more efficient. Please do not put down users when you don't fully understand the servers position.
Thank you for the backup. Cisrox, what I mean was to run a second server on the same machine. Not buy a new server, it wouldn't require any extra funds. You can run multiple servers on a single machine (depending on the machine's capability). What I was suggesting was to reroute some resources from the ECC server to run a second server for testing. In case you were wondering, I've played minecraft before joining this server
I think that the reason as to why they don't just make a test server is because they need to allocate a lot of RAM and processor resources to the test server, which will render the normal server nearly unplayable. Then, no one will be able to do anything and everyone will still complain. The server does use up most of its resources because, when it does stuff like redraw the maps, the player count is significantly reduced. The mods did state that, if there were any issues found with the 1.3.1 update, they will downgrade back to 1.2.5 and conduct further testing. Therefore, unless the server is up again with 1.3, I would strongly suggest no one update to 1.3.1 yet. However, I was an idiot and updated anyways.
That's what I wasn't sure about. The test server wouldn't need near as much resources as the ECC server requires due to there not being 50+ people on there at all times. Now, if the ECC server was using all of it's resources on the machine (which I doubt), then it wouldn't be possible. I figured it was common knowledge.
