@Ian__D when I grew up in the north suburbs of chicago, uiuc/uic was the primary school for 50% of my 1000 grad class. There were other midwestern power schools, Iowa, Michigan/MSU, Indiana, Wisconsin, etc that was about 30% of my class
@Ian__D Then there were people like me and also smarter who went ivy leagues, private schools, or generally not in the midwest etc that comprised the remaining 20%
@Ian__D what was most surprising was that my class, like many classes before it, had only a couple students go to OSU, despite it not being tooooo far, we had many go to UPenn/PSU so it wasnt a geographical thing
@Ian__D when i asked a couple people about it, they literally all said the same thing: “The only people who like ohio state are people in ohio and anyone who went there” and it all made sense to me
