It used to be that when you were banned/muted, you were banned/muted from the part of the server where you broke the rules, ex: zombies, survival, whatever. But now when you get banned/muted you are banned/muted on the entire server. Maybe you greifed on survival, does that mean that you greifed on prisons or anywhere else? Nope! Maybe you have proof that someone used x-ray on one part of the server, that doesn't mean they are using it on the entire server. Maybe if they downed the server with a dos or something, or racially abused someone, or something completely rude/evil then they should be banned from the entire server but when you greif on only one part of the server, why should you be banned from the entire thing? It also mainly defeats the point of manager, manager are admin across the entire server from what I gather. If someone is only moderator on one part of the server and they are admin on another, they can just hop on skyblock for example and ban someone for something that they did on survival even if they didn't do anything on skyblock. I'm mainly curious as to why it's a server wide ban now and not just one gamemode that you get banned from. Also I think that certain ways people break the rules should just be a temp ban, for example greif (not on a huge scale) or being rude to people should result in a day/week/month depending on what they have done. Being banned from the entire server discourages people from playing, however banning them for a week means that they get a punishment and they don't loose everything they have done or in some cases have wasted money on a rank, they aren't gonna be very happy if they have a $50 rank and they get perm banned for saying something mean to someone (please not that I am not saying that people with a rank shouldn't get any special favours and not get banned). Firstly, it means you aren't gonna decrease the player rate on the server, because at this rate you'll probably have more players being permanently banned than players joining. And also you aren't gonna be known as the server that bans people forever or until a a reset happens in a couple of years.
Keep in mind AEM is under new ownership, so if they have a specific way to do it that is different than Alex's way less then we just have to go with the flow.
It's not just AEM that bans people from one part of the server and also, I don't see why it should be a serverwide ban
Well, owners can have punishment guidelines. Maybe thats why its a server wide ban. With what you said. Xray: hacking would be global considering the fact that the player CAN use it on another server rather than just one. Plus with your xray example if its used too much then the economy can be thrown off. Eventually. If you want to know exactly why ask @Sway or @Hayden they can probably provide a reasonable answer.
We don't just ban players for small things, You have to do something really bad to get banned or muted for example causing a disturbance on the server being extremely disrespectful or hacking, using unapproved mods, etc.. we're not going back to that hacky per-server ban/mute/kick system. Managing staff members on there required a reboot of the entire network so promotion and demotion of staff members was a chore. If you don't want to be banned from the entire network for something or banned from any server it's really as simple as following the rules and respecting your staff members. Also keep in mind that there is an appeal system to have bans and mutes overturned. Sidenote: Can you properly format your post next time so i can actually read it?
Exactly what Sway said. We try not to ban as often as we used to. We utilize the jail and mute systems more now. So if someone is being rude on survival, we can just mute and jail them there for a day or so and they could still access other servers. The system now has the potential of being more harsh since all the bans are global now, but that doesn't mean we still ban just as we used to. People are scared of change, and that's normal. You just have to get past the differences and enjoy the ride.
Then again he has a point about banning from that specific server instead of the entire one if you want top grow you should ban from that part give them 3 chances and your done id say cuz if you just ban from entire server your going to end up losing a lot of people
I believe you're missing the point. We can't just do that anymore. All bans are global because of our system. We aren't losing anything by banning a toxic player and like I said, we don't ban unless it's something that really deserves it. Anyhow, we aren't going to change our current system again because it works well and is convenient. We won't let it be abused. And since there's really nothing left to explain, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread.
