Did you know that redstone ore is a GREAT floor for a road? it lights up as you walk and turns off as you leave it making it so you never have to use a torch again!
That is a good idea, but there's one small flaw: mobs. Part of the reason for copious amounts of torches, glowstone, and lamps is because all the extra lighting keeps mobs at a minimum.
well you could disable mobs in a town if you would want to then try other players spawners like /warp finnertyboys
