Ah jeez, Haven't played in a while but had to jump back on here seeing this thread. I think about being a kid and spending my whole summers on ECC often. This has been such a great place, I think I found it from an ECC server trailer on youtube in 2012. Before this, I only played Pocket Edition but seeing this server hooked me to get it on my Parent's office computer. Early memories I remember being accepted into a builder town. I dug under my plot to build a farm and accidentally hit the ocean and flooded a lot of the town. This ended up in me being banned for griefing, which is really funny to look back on. This stressed me out so badly at the time I remember looking up to the staff members so much back then. I was only maybe 13 or so when I started playing, but seeing a Red name like Joliver, Nradke, MardiganTheMad, Tkick, etc. always felt like the police or something. As a kid, it was always my dream to be on the ECC staff team lmao. Some things I remember that might spark a memory for some people: Having to buy 10x10 plots, typically these cost 1k and seemed expensive as a new player Pumpkinland: I remember you could buy a diamond axe for maybe $250? and pumpkins were worth 2$ each which is crazy to think about now. You were supposed to sell your pumpkins to the signs set up to around the town that were worth less than /sell hand. I remember being nervous that they'd catch me for not selling to their signs, haha. Wallstreet: Wandering around spawn to see this just outside of the gates was awesome to see as a new player, and these shops were more sought after than the market plots at the time Lowest I remember features being were 3k/usd. I remember getting Multihome which was 15$ for 45k which was my first feature It's been said already, but selling Ereps in /ch tr was so important back in those days. I remember being subscribed to unlimited repairs for 10k a month or something like that. Random Enchants: Saving up all of your XP at level 30? I think it was to hopefully get an eff IV or eff V pickaxe/axe. Even the eff 4s sold for decent money back then since pumpkins were so important. Jetscat Christmas! This was probably a few years later, but you could sign up on the forums and your coords, along with a chest on top of your house to get a Christmas gift. I remember getting some pretty sweet items back then and this always is a fun memory to think back on Spleef! Spleef tournaments used to be pretty big back in the day. I would always get so heated after losing in these. Christmas lotto: I remember winning the annual Christmas lotto in 2012 I wasn't at my computer at the time since we were eating Christmas Eve dinner with my family. I got a notification on the forums from someone messaging me saying I won. I can't a time after this that I was more excited than in that moment. I think I bought Tycoon, Fly, and some nice tools. Minewars! Minewars was an event like Storage Wars. This event which happened weekly brought in so many players and the lockers always sold for crazy amounts. I remember splitting one of the big lockers with another player on here and it had a Melon Sword, so we both made our money back. It's been said already but the old water portal room. My old computer would lag so badly and that place was always such a maze. Telling someone to go to the third floor, purple row or whatever was a brutal way to get around. Fishing for diamonds: Me and a buddy used to tell builders that we would give them 1 diamond per 2 fish, or something like that. The thing is, fish were worth 50$ and diamonds were worth maybe 35$ or so, so we had armies of these builders fishing for diamonds that didn't know better. One user that fished frequently for this scam was PhysicistsMom who I think ended up being a ServerAdmin (co-owner too maybe?) Butcher: I don't know if this is still really a thing but all items used to get removed that were on the ground every 15minutes or so. There was one time I bought a star hoe or something from Delucaco and it disappeared as he threw it to me. Never knew if I got scammed or if it actually disappeared, but there was no way to prove it. I like to laugh back at how angry I was at the time xD Lotto: I used to play the lotto so much, I would farm just to play the lotto. Sometimes I'd farm for an hour, spend my money on the lotto tickets, and just shut the computer down for the night if I lost. My strategy was always to buy 1 ticket at like 55sec to draw in some hype, then another ticket, and then snipe 20 at the end. Thinking back on winning 100k had the adrenaline pumpkling for sure lmao People used to get so mad about 'LottoHax' Hopefully this sparked some memories for whoever decides to read this. ECC was such an awesome place to hang out. AdmiralD's OG Builder Bonus. I thought that was such a cool idea to welcome in newer players and give them a start. Not sure if that's still going strong as I haven't played in a while but I hope it's spirit is still alive!
When I first got staff I remember processing TeamSpeak applications for players. And then for a short period of time there were Discord applications when we first switched over, and then going to the way it is now with just sharing the link to the server. Having to manually auction items in the auction channel, keeping track of players' bids and acknowledging them. Before /trade was a thing, having to meet up with users, placing a chest, and then trading items through the chest so it wouldn't get butchered. Lots of big "nations" with plots for sale and builder towns. It doesn't really seem like thats a thing anymore. When Skyblock first came out (and everyone waiting for it to be released eventually) and the hype surrounding it. Acquiring AEM (I think that's the server name?) and having everyone from that community join us. Having a big influx in players when Covid first hit and everyone was in isolation. Nobody knowing if he was serious or not when Andrew first came up with the "Troll" ban appeal process. When we had /list Spawn Statues People cocoa/pumpkin/melon farming as the best way of making money on ECC SquidHQ launcher/EULA /party chat prior to the introduction of private chat channels The server market stalls being in high demand, especially the first few stalls in each row, before market towns became a thing. The old town portal area, I remember having to remember where the portal to the builder town I lived in was so I could get back home. I'll edit more of these in as I remember them! Man y'all are bringing back memories, I should go look for any old screenshots of mine. I remember before star tools were invented, winning huge lotteries with 1 ticket, and PvP in the dedicated 1 small sand arena. I also miss those times hanging with the mods and sugar cane farming.
