Hello everyone, My name is knears2000, and I have some information that I'd like to share with everyone. In my recent findings on farming and mining, I've noticed a trend. People always continually complain that melon farming does not make as much money as mining with an eff7. On the surface, $20,000 > $14,500. That's just simple math, or is it? Now, I know that seems extremely illogical. "How can $20,000 make more than $14,500? That is impossible." Or is it? Now, you'll have to bear with my train of thought here, but it will make sense in the long run. Mining profit: $21,000 in one hour! Wow! That's a lot! Or so is it? That statement is factually incorrect. Why? Because you need to fortune the ores. Running some tests, I've found that on average, it takes around 15 minutes to fortune ores for every 30 minutes of mining. What this means is that if I mined for 1 hour, then fortuned the ores, it would actually take me 1 hour 30 minutes to make that $21,000. So the actual amount you make per hour is closer to $14,000 per hour. Farming Profit: $14,500, not too shabby, but not nearly as much as mining. I'm going to go complain about how I don't make as much money, even though I paid more for the tool. Now, that's incorrect. If you make $14,500 in an hour farming, it requires no fortuning of ores, and has a steady supply of crop to farm. Now, mining makes around $21,000 per hour an a half. Let's do some simple math here. 14,500 / 2 = 7,250. Farming makes around $7,250 per every half hour. So after an hour and a half of farming, you make $21,750. That is roughly around the same as mining makes in the same timespan. Conclusion: Farming and mining make equivalent amounts of money within the same timespan. Thanks, hope you enjoyed. Peace knears
I think that it is common knowledge that mining makes more than farming. Especially after counting EXP costs, mining can make upwards of $25,000 per hour for people that are skilled at mining and have perfect gear for the job. A recently reset mining world helps too. However, the issue lies in that farming takes much less work. For example, melon farming is simply clicking in a line. Although I farm, I feel as though it is fairly balanced due to the lack of work required for farming and the range of profit values for mining.
I totally agree, but mining makes a fraction more than farming if any. The amount of time it takes to fortune really has an impact on the profits.
From my experience, you're correct. However, it takes me quite the amount of time to fortune ores when I do make $25,000. It balances itself out.
I like that you are trying to make peace between the two, very distinct groups of true hard workers, but I am fairly sure mining makes more. Just after reset I was doing 13K + exp on a very good hour, and over six hours of HC mining I averaged about 11K an hour with my fort. These are true rates, all included. I don't have any features that support mining. I think this hourly rate can be brought a lot higher with an eff7, water, fly and that backback thingy, since the most time consuming things are chewing through stone, bridging over lava and selling hand. You also need to leave some ore behind that is somewhere you can see, but can't reach due to lava/height. About the fort.. I knew this would be a problem and I didn't like that all the fancy hourly rates with eff7-s actually don't have fort times included in them, which after 4 hours of proper mining with eff7, will take a considerable amount of time. As I get my eff7 very soon, i will be using fort and eff7 at the same time, and have them side by side on the tool belt, so I could quickly swap between them. I have no experience yet, but I can assume eff7 has the most use in chewing through stone. Add water and fly and I think these true hourly rates, when really pushed, can go rather high. While with melons you do have a set, reliable speed and rate at which you make money, but you face no risks what so ever and you have a constant supply. Add the fact that mines get destroyed by the end of the month, while msword keeps it's rate, and the higher msword price becomes justified.
Fortuning while Eff7 mining helps a ton. That was my method, and I mined coal with fortune for the EXP. Definitely improves efficiency a lot if you get good at switching between them. Macros also help alot with mining efforts. ./sell all loops, /repair all loops and /feed loops were a core part of my mining. Overall, great insight @knears2000 and @BuyLowSeIIHigh! +1
Oh yea, I am sure these macros will save heaps of time over a long mining haul. They are definitely in my feature plan to gain OP mining edge. I spend maybe 6-8 minutes selling hand in an hour, the time I could spend mining. Another thing to note, in my experience with fort, is that to gain these hourly rates, immense attention is required, leaving your head dizzy, eyes dry and exhausted after a couple of hours. It is not easy to gain big advantage against msword, but when you put in that extra effort and cut time from where it is possible, good results will come. If that's what motivates one.
It shouldn't take that long to fortune the ores. Whenever I did an hour of mining it took me 2 uses of superbreaker (It really helps) to fortune all my ores, which of course depends on your mcmmo level and features. You're right that the fortuning time has to be accounted for but it takes a bit of practice to get the method of fortuning right to make it as quick as possible. In my case it took me 5-10 minutes to fortune an hours worth or ores and I made around 28-30k on average from all of them. Mining definitely makes more money but only with the right features and attention, it also carries a lot of risk. Farming is pretty much the opposite
Personally, I have been able to make around 30k in 1.5 hours with an eff7. That boils down to about 20k per hour. I don't even have that high of a mcmmo. I would mine for money over farming any day. The only I farm is because it's lazy money. I also sg for money. It's an easy 30k per hour.
