Why do donations take so incredibly long?

I got paid yesterday and decided to donate, because I'm very new to the server but I really enjoy it. The donation/upgrade process seems incredibly frustrating though, I paid during my lunch break at working thinking I should have it by time I get off work and will be able to play this weekend with the perks and money. But over 24 hours later I still haven't received what I paid for, I don't understand why you don't have a better process for people who are paying you money that helps keep the server going. At this rate it seems I won't even be able to enjoy any of the perks this weekend because most of the weekend will be over before anyone even looks at the donations.

I was also waiting on some of the money from the donation to apply for resident, since the application I put in when I donated was rejected for funds... even though I said explicitly that I will have them when you process the donation. My question is that if you are using paypal in the first place to process the donations, why isn't there a smother and much quicker method in place to apply the perks? You have the code that does this from voting... it shouldn't be too difficult to apply much of that code to the donation process as well.

As for the rank upgrades, why isn't there a way to just purchase the next rank in game? As far as I can tell you basically just make sure they understand the rules and have the funds... incredibly easy to just do in game and save all of you time on the Forum. (At least for Resident rank which doesn't get a whole lot of the town stuff yet).

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, I'm just trying to understand why things are the way they are and see if there is a way to make them better.

    Thank you,

It takes donations 24-48 hours for donations to be possessed because andrewkm (the owner) has more, and important things to do than to do donations every 6 hours.
Honestly, 24-48 hours isn't that long to wait.

That would be my exact point then Starleana... donations keep the server up and running... if the owner is the only one allowed to do them and has to manually apply them - Why not find a smarter way of doing them? If enough people get sick of the process, donations drop, voila no server anymore anyway.

I also fully understand during Monday-Friday not really processing them as quickly, but the weekend most likely has more people paying donations as more people are actively playing.

I do understand that the owner is busy and probably has other things he wants to do than process donations people pay him for the perks mainly every six hours, that doesn't make it an acceptable response as to why donations take so long... it just makes it an understandable reason as to why HE doesn't do them more often.

It's been going this way for over 2.5 years and donations have remained unaffected by this. The reason for this is because the owner is the one who deals with legal matters, the owner is the one who deals with the money matters, it's the owner who does all that work.

Andrew generally does donations once or even twice a day. Sometimes he's just busy and can't do it within a day, so he'll do it a day later. It almost never takes longer than that unless there's something preventing him from doing it.
Recently almost all applications were handed over to GAs, but the one thing he will always do manually is donations, because in case a problem arises, he's the one who can fix it.

Giving people too much power is something he will absolutely not do, even the highest ranked staffmembers have custom made commands just so they can do applications, but control over donation features and ecd is absolutely not something he, or we, want.

long story short, andrew does them as quickly as he can, but he won't change how he does donations.

Thank you kukelekuuk00, that makes more sense at least. I'm still uncertain as to why he hasn't found a more efficient method though, don't take me wrong... I really like this server and that is exactly why I chose to donate to it and most likely will again. That is also the reason I made this post instead of just asking for a refund and changing servers... I want to help and make it better if possible.

I know it takes a lot to run a server as good as this one and mean no discredit to him, but there is always room for improvement as well. I don't know much about the back-end programming for a minecraft server, but I do have a degree in software development and almost done with another in mathematics... if you all are looking for help on any projects/ideas.

There isn't a much more efficient method that doesn't require losing control of certain parts of the process, which is something, as far as I know, andrew does not want. The donation process is too valuable to be left to (partial) automation. And if andrew was willing to, then it would've happened already, we have some great devs here, like KHobbits, md_5, me, etc.
But right now, losing (partial) control over the donation process is not something that will happen.

I understand, guess I just happened to purchase a donation during a time that's greater than 24 hours. Maybe he could at least have a posting of what days/times he will be doing them? That way people could plan accordingly and not be checking constantly for a day or two... at least set a schedule of some sort other than 24-48 hours...

He doesn't say when he is doing them because he can't guarantee a time. He does, however, have a thread he updates when he does them. I will re-comment with the link.

My guess is that it's really not something that would work. If he could conform to schedule then he might as well do them every six hours. It's more of a "Okay, I have time now, I'll do em". He's busy enough that if he had time to go make a forum post, he'd also have time then to do donations. He also holds another job besides ECC, and he needs his desktop to do all of the donations. I believe he can do some of them off of it, but mainly he needs to be at his desktop. So if ANYTHING comes up during his day, it would interrupt his schedule, and we're back to square one.

I think it's good just the way it is. He has only failed his 24-48's pledge ONCE in the past two years, and only then because he had no power for several days.

Here is the thread he updates.

    http://ecocitycraft.com/forum/threa...romotions-giftcard-credits.27829/#post-377513

If you go to the bottom, it says when he last updated it. When he does donations, he updates it. If he updates it again and you still don't have your feature/s, forum pm him like this and tell him you haven't received your feature/s.

    Your IGN:
Donation you purchased (I would post cost too):
    When you bought it:

I see, well I guess it just is what it is... I'm just not used to having to wait more than an hour for anything I've purchased in online gaming. I played minecraft on xbox for quite awhile, but I'm new to minecraft on pc. In the future I guess I'll have to plan ahead and purchase on a Tuesday if I want to be able to use anything I bought on during the weekend.

Yes, servers are different, especially when you have a single owner.

Thanks Maco20047 but I'm already aware of that thread... I've been checking it every 30 minutes to an hour since yesterday, as well as doing /bal to see.

Hehe, you're going to drive yourself crazy constantly checking. Just play as normal. When you login tomorrow, check the thread. The more you stress on waiting, the longer it will seem. If you're online when he does them, it will say "[Server] Donations Processed" in game. Then you will know if there was an error with yours.

Oh, good to know it does tell you in game at least! I know I shouldn't keep checking, problem is I'm brand new to the server and it takes forever to do anything. I've tried playing the hunger games while I wait but it always seems bugged (may be just me). It either lags out after teleporting, or some guy 2 shots me even though I have a better weapon and armor. So, needless to say that has gotten old quick as well lol. I've pretty much just been mining or chopping away at pumpkins, but both of those get old after a while too :D

Yes, it only shows in game in real time when he does it. So just check when you login or see the message in game.

I really wouldn't worry cpl. On many days he does it more than once, and it is very infrequent that donation processing takes more than a day or two. Just remember, he's a real person too, and has a lot of things going on in his life. I am actually very amazed and pleased that he finds as much time as he does for ECC. Andrew is really dedicated to this community, and I'm sure your donations will get resolved soon.

You can "WATCH" a thread ANY thread. As part of watching a thread, it allows you to receive an e-mail when the thread has updated. This will send you an e-mail to the e-mail account attached to your forum account. And if your e-mail account is attached to your phone, it will give you a ding when the thread is updated.
