ive been wandering through the mining world through days and nights and i haven't encountered even 1 mob, passive or hostile! any explanations?
I've wandered through the mining world too (like, for a total of 8+ hours on the surface), and only found ~around~ 5 creepers and 7 skeletons, upon which I got music discs. As far as I know, mob spawn rate is like reduced to a fraction (less than 25% or something).
I imagine it's a combination of things including Reduced spawn rate to reduce lag. Mob spawning is spread across the world and players. May have been a recent butcher. Because of the spawn rate/pattens they are mainly reduced to spawner's. That's my explanation.
Everyone should read the below referenced article if you have not already. Essentially, because of the limited world size on ECC, one single player can build an underground farm that stops ALL animal spawning for ALL players on the server. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Animal_spawning#Animal_Spawning
its not just the animals when ever you cross paths with a skeleton or any other aggressive mob in plain sightit somehow disappears like its been butchered..(This excludes spawners)
I was very dismayed when I discovered this. I now think that becoming a resident was a waste of my Ecodollars. What's next? No passive mobs in the aether?
I see lots of mobs in both the mining world and the nether but I have fly+. Regardless, they are there and I can even find Ghasts and Enderman without much searching.
Someone found my secret cow farm took me like an hour to find two cows close to each other, and then to get them to the secret base.
Mobs aren't supposed to despawn when there is no players near enough? I mean even with a farm they should despawn one day or another... This is also very unerving. I see other extra big servers with BIG maps and when I look at their entity count, there is like 20+ entities, without many players around. Here, I'm almost alone in the mining world and the entity count rarely goes up to 2 and most of the times it's items on the ground...
It's the debug menu (F3). The E means Entity. It detects players, mobs and items in a certain line of sight (x/...) on the total in a certain perimeter (.../x)
