Suggestion: I suggest making farming wheat through the means of RedStone Lamps legal again.

Reason: Many people were extremely disappointed when they were made illegal, and I was one of them. The reason for the abolishment of this way of farming was because a certain someone (Someone we won't have to worry about anymore) made a farm that strained the server so much, it caused a crash, and severe downtime for our other players. This I can see would cause a problem, but I feel like the solution found was not the best one that could have been chosen.

Other Information: A good metaphor for this situation, is this. Imagine you are eating from a tub of ice cream. Now, you eat too much ice cream too fast, and you get a brain freeze. This is what happend to us. Our server got a brain freeze and crashed. Now just because you got a brain freeze, does that mean that we need to ban ice cream from ever being eaten again? I would certainly hope not, I love ice cream, just like I loved making earnest money through a light farm I spent my time in to make, and through that made earnest money, money I used to by donation features, money I used to buy Mayor! Farming through the means of Redstone Lamps was an important part of our economy, and I (along with many other farmers) would love to see it come back.

Some More Other Information: I do see that the rule put in place was on the right track, so here is what I suggest for some form of compromise. Maybe set a limit for the size that the farms could be. My 30x30x6 farm had been used for months on months before it was named illegal. I would love to see it back in commission.

Making them legal again while they can still crash the server would be silly, anyone can build that thing, and the person who made it didn't know it could crash the server until it actually did. My point is, people who don't know they an crash the server with those farms will just make a farm and keep expanding it, until at some point it will cause some severe lag or even crash the server.

tl;dr: People won't realize they can crash the server and build big light farms if you make them legal again.

I feel if Andrew made some sort of server wide announcement, through a forum thread or something of the like, the word would get out on to how big the farms could be. People seem to pay attention to those. And instead of just world editing out the farm as punishment if it is found over the limit, a different punishment can be added on, something that would or course be at Andrews discretion. Something to really make the rule worth following, you know?

Besides, the size of the farm that crashed the server was completely unnecessary. That farm wasn't that big through means of simply expanding a little here and there, it was made with the sole intention of being the largest wheat farm ever made.

My 2 cents worth.... How would you monitor the size of the wheat farms allowed? I agree on that the wheat light farm was great, and I for one had a 100*100 wheat farm with lights. But I had mine set with 8 separate switches so I could harvest and replant without having to worry if I would have time to gather and replant the lot in one go. If someone chose to have the largest just because they could then it stands to reason that they get banned for crashing the server. And we all suffered when the server went down because of it. No different to those that created the chicken farms and crashed the server. We all suffered the consequences of that also.

If it has the potential to crash the server then it should be banned. I for one don't want to login to find the server crashed because of someone else doing something just because they could. You want to do that, then go play creative!!!

I have to say, prior to the redstone lamp farm crashing the server I almost converted my own farm. My farm is 200x200 2 floors of wheat. Had I converted it it would have crashed the server. I would have had no reason to think otherwise. There are still players on ECC who don't know it is illegal. If this was to be made legal new players would not know that making too big a farm could cause a problem. Simply calling it illegal makes it so they are less likely to test the boundary of what may cause a server crash. If you want a semi-auto farm then use water. It is also effective and will collect all the wheat/seeds in one place at the bottom of the water. Thus, in my opinion, water is better and cheaper anyways.

Nodus was outlawed, and I still see complaints on people that use it. It's just not a good idea to even allow it anymore. It's impossible to monitor every farm everywhere.

And, we aren't talking one guy eating ice cream...we're talking 50+

There was nothing wrong with the way the farms worked before, only because one person went crazy and took it to far. Nodus is illegal because it is unfair and causes a player to gain an advantage over another. Having a Light Wheat farm does nothing like that. The limited size is something a staff member could easily discern, because these farms were present for two years and nothing caused a problem. This proves that there is nothing majorly wrong with the way the farms worked. Only the people involved. There would be no need to monitor every farm, only ones that exceeded the limit.

It's already too late when one exceeds the limit, prevention is better than dealing with the aftermath.
