Time! I have a fishing business proposal to save time and make money. Details below- Username: cornpalace What type of job are you looking for?: Fishing with a star rod How much are you looking to get paid: 25% of what I catch Additional Information: I am looking to partner with Star Rod owners to run a fishing business. My proposed arrangement is that you (the Star Rod owner) allow me to fish with your Star Rod and for my fishing labor I will keep 25% of the fishing proceeds and you will be paid the remaining 75%. I anticipate I could fish for you approximately five hours per week. To accommodate this arrangement, I suggest you would make a private chest (ideally somewhere close to a portal) and grant me permission to this chest. You place your Star Rod in the chest. I could then grab the rod to fish and when I'm done I return the rod and 75% of what I caught to the chest. Either in actual items caught or preferably ECD after I sell to the server. This way anytime I'm not fishing for you, the Star Rod will be in your chest for you to use. Let me know if you're interested! I'm happy to discuss in more detail and we could obviously put a contract in place detailing our agreement. Thanks!
Just an fyi, a contract like this couldn't be approved. You can't prove what you did and didn't catch so it'd be entirely an honor system. There is a system of renting in place though, which means you need to have some capital which you invest into renting someones star rod. A contract where you "rent" the star rod could be accepted but the proposed idea wouldn't work. Good luck with your venture(s).
Thanks, you make a good point. It's unfortunate that an "honor system" arrangement like this is difficult but I get it, people like to scam. It doesn't have to be that way. I believe that the most fruitful, long-term business deals are built on honesty and trust. Even arrangements with contracts require trust. As players on ECC can attest, contracts do not guarantee a positive outcome but they can help and provide some recourse when people are scammed. Players might get banned but it doesn't mean those who were wronged get their money back. I have no interest in scamming anyone, I just enjoy playing on an economy server and want to be creative in business. Just my two cents. Having said that, I am interested in renting a Star Rod too. I'm not sure how much I could make per hour so I need to figure that out, I've poked around but haven't found numbers yet. Most people don't seem too into fishing but I like it . I do have SOME capital, just not enough to buy my own Star Rod (yet). Another option is that I document my entire process with video. If we started with a scheduled work period where I grab the rod, fish for say thirty minutes, and return the rod along with the earnings share ALL on video. The owner would know that I only had the Rod for the scheduled time if we arrange a time to pick up and return. This still involves trust but it would then be a contract to borrow the Star Rod and supply video documentation of my work. If the rod owner has any doubts, simply watch the video!
@cornpalace That is another idea, to use video, but then the other player will have to spend their own time looking through hours of fishing. The whole issue of scamming is definitely an issue but for contracts (I think), is the ability to document and ensure that the deal is being upheld. It's impractical to rely on video recordings too since a player could just remove a portion of video or just not record some gameplay. It's easier to do renting because you have the players exchange immediately, the rent money and the rented item, and the only issue being is the return of the rented item. Scamming happens yes and trust is necessary, which is why contracts exist. It documents an agreement, which staff has agreed is legal. Should the worst come to pass, the violator would be reprimanded with a ban. The trust occurs when they make that deal with you and hand over the star rod. The contract makes it so that, if you decide to come back, they have a chance of recovering what they lost. For the renter, renting a star tool is extremely risky. It takes quite a bit of trust to just let someone borrow your 600k+ item for just 10k. I'm not entirely sure on this but I believe people make ~5-10k on fish (and selling to server) and more on exp. I don't usually see people rent out star rods but the last one I saw was 10k/day which seemed low. Hope that helped, good luck again.
