For maximum profits while farming, I present to you....

What you need to farm for money, personal benefit, and MCMMO leveling.

First up, I might list the crops in order of best to worst, and then state their benefits. (depends on tool)

    Tool: Hand
    Sugarcane > Wheat > Potato > Carrot > Cocoa Bean > Melon = Pumpkin
Sugarcane is the best, because with 3 stalks (assuming farm is fully grown) one punch gets you 1.5$ = 1 pumpkin. So with a speed potion or fly, you can run superfast and make as much money, if not even more, because you don't need to repair tools, as pumpkin farming!

Wheat is a pretty good crop (Until it got devalued) to farm. When I was a builder, I bought a small plot, made a farm, and repeated a simple process. Plant, bonemeal, and sell. Easy as that.

Potatoes and carrots are both equal, except you can bake potatoes and get exp.

Cocoa beans can make you more money than wheat, but only if you have a huge farm. Never tested this out though...

Don't even bother farming melons and pumpkins.

    Tool: Eff 5 Unb 3 D-Axe
Pumpkin > Pretty dang much everything else

Pumpkins break pretty dang fast. Many users use pumpkins as their main source of income, like I used to. However, the axe will cost around 7k+ and constant repairs will be needed. However, it is worth it as I could make almost 15k a hour with speed potions, and fly could even make you close to 20k a hour.
Note: If the axe has silk touch, you can farm melons too.

    Tool: Melon Sword
Melons. Just melons. Why else would you have one....
Unless you like to waste it on pvp or whatever.
I love having a melon sword. Brings in the most money out of all the crops, however there is a downside...
Getting around 350k or 1000 nstars to even get a sword.
But besides that, with a trusted repairer and a huge farm, with fly you could make 20k a hour!

    More small notes:
I forgot to put in tree farming. Don't even bother, unless you need wood for some kind of project.
    I also forgot nether warts....
which aren't too bad. Good for potions, and a stack can sell for a decent amount to players. Just find someone to buy them.
    Cactus and mushrooms? No. (obviously)
Flower picking does not bring in money, however you can decorate your dirt house with them.

Thanks for reading! If you would like me to add something or have some criticism or ideas, send me a pm or post here.

Also, I don't think reeds are the best crop anymore because andrew changed the price to $0.20 instead of $0.30
So now, for new users, I recommend pumpkins, and for the rich users, melons would be the way to go.

I agree with all listed above. Sugarcane is worthwhile if you have a large and healthy farm [where it grows back quickly - could achieve this if built in a trafficked area].

I would highly suggest pumpkins if possible to get an eff 5 axe, as with potions it is extremely profitable, and cheap/easy to find a greatly built farm [as many were built before the nurf in pricing].

Ah, I miss when there was no enchanting and everybody just farmed pumpkins for 2$ per pumpkin.

So hard to make money now.
