I agree with this, I think you should make everyone invincible to the void at least until they fix that problem in the next patch. I've lost my only Silk Touch pick and to a builder soon-to-be-resident, that is currently a lot for me.
I don't think this is possible as it is not an official part of the map and blocks can't be placed to make a region, and if you are invincible you can just fall forever in the void and lag the server.
ive seen another server where if u die in void,it says 'you died in the void you keep all your items' and u keep all you items, i dont know the plug in thought.
you cannot worldguard the void and andrewkm said no more plugin so we could not get a plugin i am aware of that means you can keep yours items if you die certain way.

Well, even extending the time you stay alive in the void should help, as you should be able to teleport out.
