I was talking to 314 about the value of glass and while doing so I got the right reason why sand/gravel has no value. He said it was a mcmmo exploit for lots of exp but has been patched/doesnt work anymore so I see why not give these items value back so that it doesnt feel so bad when they disappear when I /sell all them for inventory space.
Corrections: This is what I've learned from others as it happened before my time on ECC (I think). Apparently the main factor were item drops, not mcMMO xp itself. However, I have yet to understand why this led to a /worth of 0.
It had to do with the so called "gravel monsters". Giant pits filled with gravel that people would dig out from the bottom, making it fall fall down and making it easy to collect the dropped items. It increased the CPU load drastically. So andrew just made it worthless by removing the /worth and mcmmo drops. It could easily have a price again, since people only did it for mcmmo drops. +1 I guess.
That's exactly what I've been told, but I don't understand why /worth was set to 0 because gravel monsters would be refilled with the mined blocks instead of being sold.
From my understanding, an area was filled with gravel, then broken for mcMMO drops. Filling the area would re-use the previously collected gravel. That's what I have been told, although I may have misunderstood.
That's generally how it goes, yes. Hence my "It could easily have a price again, since people only did it for mcmmo drops."
Hence my "I have yet to understand why this led to a /worth of 0." - if the gravel was reused, changing its /worth shouldn't have affected gravel monsters.
It was changed to further discourage people from doing it. However I don't see a problem with adding a price to it since there are pretty much no one who would still make one since gravel and sand have no mcmmo drops.
Do you understand this doesn't make any sense at all? If people reuse gravel to make gravel monsters, obviously they won't /sell it: because, if they sold it, obviously they wouldn't be able to reuse it to make gravel monsters anymore. A non-zero gravel price and gravel monsters are orthogonal, totally incompatible ways of making money. Either you sell gravel, or you use it to make monsters. Not both. If gravel monsters were really the reason why gravel price was set to 0, than that price change didn't make any sense at all in the first place.
Sorry for a little necroing of this post. Any who since /sell is being fixed anyway perhaps we can look into this again?
Why would this need a price. Just do /smelt and a stack will be worth $12.80 even more in a spawn shop
Not everyone has /smelt and/or rather not spend the time doing it. Also gravel is not even worth picking up atm unless you want a road/path of some sort. With even a little value it would be worth picking up while doing clears.
