Accused Username: lilpakiComplaint: paki is a slur: nounOFFENSIVE•BRITISH a person from Pakistan or South Asia by birth or descent, especially one living in Britain.Evidence: It's their name.Additional Information: Mod AJCL didn't respond even though a simple google would reveal it is a slur. neecoalage also thought it was defensible. Do you all allow slurs simply because they aren't as well known? Sounds like a dangerous slippery slope.
Based on my research and some serious thought. I have decided to not punish this user for this name. It does have negative connotations which are really specific to the British culture, I for one as an American did not recognize the word as a slur as it means almost nothing in the American culture. It could be used in a negative context that is derogatory and offensive. I don't deny it. This username isn't really offensive, its not directing a negative vibe towards a particular demographic, but it does have negative connotations from a history of violence. But unlike some other well known slurs it is not a universally negative, it may not be politically correct but its not horrible either. I consider this a very contextual gray area. Obviously if users are going to use it as a slur/insult then they will be punished as we do the same for the word "gay" which traditionally was used negatively but we allow it in a positive non-derogatory manner. However, this one in a non-offensive context I don't see a need to make a huge deal out of it. I have reinstated their forced nickname, but I don't see a reason to take any more severe action.
