After staff discussion about the influx of trade chat spam and advertisements, the trade chat channel rules have been updated to reflect rules for spacing of repeated advertisements (changes outlined in red, as per usual): Section VIII: Chat Clause II: Trade Channel This channel is used for trades and in-game advertising. Advertisements in this channel must be no longer than 2 unique messages at a time, and may be posted no more often than 3-5 minutes apart should they need to be repeated. If chat is slow, the increments between these repeated advertisements need to be longer. All spam rules are in effect for the trade channel, just like every other channel. There is, however, to be no auctions in this channel as it is a channel that every user is forced to be in. You are able to announce an auction in this channel, and afterwards take it to the auction channel to proceed with your auction. All items sold in trade must be EcoCityCraft related.
3 minutes is a VERY long time. I normally have to broadcast an e-repair message 6 or 7 times before I get a response. 21 minutes is a long time to wait for a repair.
If everybody made two ads every 35-60 seconds on a loop, the chatbox would fly by so fast it would be a blur. At spawn local during peak hours the chat box was moving at such a speed that it was very challenging to read it all. Is that how we want to greet new builders? I say no. This change gets my thumbs up.
now i have to edit alll my advertising macros and change them alll to like 2 mins and OMG what an effort :| first world problems
It was probably changed because of you! No, I play I play, jk jk. Nickla, its fine, just revert your macros to make them smaller, and why must you always advertise them together? Advertise them individually , hope that might solve some of your first world problems. Matt
So let me get this straight. Ads have to be two lines at most? Or two posts (with 2 lines each) at most? And...like 3-5 minutes in between? What if I have a really short, one liner ad, 3-5 minute rule still counts then?
They may be NO LONGER THAN 2 UNIQUE MESSAGES, which means you can put only 2 words in each of your unique messages and it still counts as your 2 unique messages. The 3-5 minute rule still applies, even if you only have a one liner ad.
Oh cool. My unofficial trade chat rule I was modding off of became official. Anyhow I like this. Trade chat macro spam gets very annoying after a while.
The reason it was three-five minutes is due to how spammy the current trade chat was. I myself use to have my adverts on 2400t (2 minutes), but many users said it was "too long" and went between anywhere from 30-90 seconds. Though after the staff discussed the issue, and knowing the frequency of messages from users who use macro advertisements commonly, it was decided three-five minutes was the best time to let the message get across, and reduce spam. While the timing may change in the future, the current time that was decided on will stay for now to see how it works out. By "messages" we mean every time you hit enter to send the message, it counts as one, no matter the length of what was sent. Please note that they needs to be two unique messages, as a full message to fix on typo, or double posting the same message twice may count as spam. If you need help understanding the rule, you need to ask exactly what you aren't understanding about it, hopefully what I posted above explains it, but I cannot be sure without knowing what you don't understand.
