Hey there everyone, just making this thread as a little reminder/suggestion/tip for those of you who like to make suggestions. Generally when I make suggestions, I go through a list of things before actually posting the suggestion. Is my suggestion practical? Is my suggestion needed? Does my suggestion target a fair amount of users? Once I think about these things and start to make my post, I go through another small list of things to keep in mind. Is my point clear? Does my suggestion make sense? Am I doing a good job explaining my reasoning? Am I providing enough information? Have I done enough background research? I see people all the time make suggestions with good intentions, but frankly, they haven't put a whole lot of thought into it. When people read it, they get lost. When people ask them questions, they don't really know how to answer the questions because they haven't put much thought into it, but rather just blindly posted a suggestion. Basically is what I'm trying to say, is a suggestion shouldn't take you a matter of 5 minutes to come up with and post. Your suggestions should have lots of time put into them. Explain them in detail. Make sure they're useful suggestions. Don't expect your suggestions to be accepted first try, and always be prepared to change your mind. Generally when I make suggestions, the initial post takes about 30 minutes of constant revising. I make sure punctuation and spelling are correct to make it easier on other to read and so they don't lost their place while reading. Add graphics to help explain your suggestion (don't make a 20 second picture to explain a complex suggestion). If you ever need help with a suggestion, feel free to forum pm me for help/advice. I'm always here to help!
This is an excellent starter guide to suggestion making. If I could add one thing to this, it would be to think about technical issues with some of the suggestions. It can be difficult if you're not really sure how the plugins work, but you can basically think with the functionality we've got if something would be possible. If the suggestion isn't related to anything we've got, do a little Google sleuthing and see if anything like it exists already. If nothing like it exists, and it isn't related to anything we've already got, it's likely that if it were to be implemented that KHobbits would have to write it from scratch, which makes a suggestion a lot less appealing unless it's something that the server absolutely needs. I personally usually make suggestions about forum stuff for this reason. I don't really entirely understand the plugins, but I understand them enough that anything I come up with for the server would be a pain for KH to create or take from another source to implement cleanly. Consider the development team and how hard something would be for them to deal with when making a suggestion, and if you can solve some of the basic implementation hurdles they might have, you'll find that your suggestions might be better received as something plausible.
This should be stickied. On another note, it also helps to anticipate objections from opposing viewpoints and then refute them in the initial post so as to clear things up more and sound more professional. For instance I might say, "While Maco might say that raising pumpkin prices by $2 will drastically inflate the economy, he fails to realize that pumpkins are orange and are therefore far more valuable than what they're listed at."
I also recommend looking up the general concept of your argument in the top right search bar after clicking on the Suggestion Forum as some if the ideas have been suggested countless times...
This should definitely be stickied with the addition of Skylexia's comment, because I find it to be very helpful and everyone should be viewing this. I might actually make a suggestion to get this stickied.
I was just saying man. And I've seen you say that on multiple suggestions, so don't be yelling at me...
