Minecraft Name: Expipiplusone Suggestion: This is not actually a suggestion, it's more of an open request for suggestions: how would you provide long static text ingame? Problem: Ok, I'll explain what I mean. Recently I made this suggestion, which sadly was denied. I'm not going to discuss on that because it's final and it would be pointless, however I will discuss here the reason why I made that suggestion in the first place. Let's say that I want to create a sort of tutorial in my town: I could do that with a series of signs (see in /warp eulerville for an example), however signs are very limited and sometimes ugly to see. Or let's say that I built something huge and I would like to provide a description of it, and that it can't fit in 10 signs, set aside a single one. Possible solution: An obvious solution would be to just make a forum thread and write everything in it, which would also allow me to add pictures, formatting, etc. Then I would just write its url in a sign, done. However, as of now, urls in signs cannot be clicked: urls in chat are clickable, but urls in signs are not. The visitor would just have to read it and type it back in a browser, and it's very annoying, even more so if the url is shortened to something like http://fd84hc4x. It has already been suggested to make links clickable in signs (beware: old thread) and I don't know why it has not been implemented yet, however I'm not sure I would be completely satisfied just with that. So: What would you suggest? How would you provide a long, static text ingame?
Oh, another possible solution would be using written books: however those cannot be sold via trade signs and many users will just forget to put them back, so I would have to provide a continuous supply of books available to visitors. I'm not very satisfied with this one either.
I like the idea especially the embedding written books in the signs, rather than selling the written books or making multiple signs. About URL in signs, may be handy.
