The following story is extract from a book found in The Great Library in Caprica. It reads as followed...
Like Picon, Tauron had humble beginnings. Once mostly agricultural lands, consisting of a small population comprised mostly of farmers, Tauron was unprepared when the armies of Virgon arrived at their village. They gave the farmers two choices; surrender, or watch their village burn.
Virgon’s occupation of Tauron lasted over a century, in which time they came to rely more and more of Tauron as a source of food production. As this reliance on Tauron became apparent, Virgon’s enemies used this to their advantage, targeting Tauron in an attempt to disrupt their food supplies, and weaken their armies. Concerned that they may lose Tauron, Virgon invested heavily in fortifying the city. Huge, imposing walls were constructed to protect the city from attackers… but this act would be Virgon’s downfall.
Secretly a rebellion had been growing within the city, who sought to rid their colony of Virgon’s rule for good. These rebels, comprised primarily of an order known as The Ha’la’tha, slowly grew in number, biding their time.
The day following the completion of The Great Wall, they struck.
Ironically, it was the quality of Virgon’s own defences that caused any attempts to retake the city to fail. Though it was the Ha’la’tha who were largely responsible for the success of the rebellion, once Virgon were out of the picture, Tauron soon turned on its saviours. Branded as criminals, the Ha’la’tha were swept aside, as Tauron elected their own government, and the city began to prosper.
Since then, despite it's growth and it's transition into becoming one of the more wealthy colonies, Tauron has been in a constant power struggle. Though officially ruled over by the Tauron Parliament and the Quorum of Twelve, The Ha’la’tha’s influence over the city remains. Now little more than a crime syndicate, their ties can be traced to almost every aspect of Tauron life, including their politics...
