Hello players, I thought that I could ask for your opinion and your help on something I have had a dream about since day one on ECC, to build Atlantis, and it's finally happening! The city will be completely underwater. By that I mean starting at sky limut we will place water so that all buildings will be surrounded by water. In order for this to happen, we have to build giant glass walls on all sides of the town. In addition every part of the city must be built before the flood. The city will have a clover shaped skyscraper in the center with various other buildings around it. This will be a major focal point of the town. At the very top story of the skyscraper, will be The ECC Library, there we will have 100's of copies of player written books for free or for a miniscule fee. Thoughts, suggestions, ideas? If you want to donate books or resources pm me in game or below.
EDIT There's a town (4 towns next to each other actually) called Atlantis, there's no warp, but I have a home saved there, you should have a look at it
That one is submerged, just inside a glass dome. You mean, submerged without a glass dome? But I inferred from you post that yours would have a glass dome as well. Anyway, I have a book I wrote for the Lost in Space build competition (Feb/Mar 2015), I can give you some copies. Oh: how will you let players read the books without letting them steal them?
Yes, without the dome. I plan to make copies of the books and charge a 10$ fee per copy per book so that they can keep it. That would be amazing, having a copy of that book. Thanks!
So they would basically need you online to get a copy of the book, because written books cannot be sold via trade signs. Am I correct?
Yes and no, I am trying to think of ways around this. Most likely I will hire others or give them away for free via chests.
Now that I have checked it, written books cannot be sold to server, so users would not have a great incentive to steal them. For this reason I think a better option would be to leave them free to collect from a chest, and ask users to please make a donation through a trade sign next to it. Yes, many might take a book and not pay, but I think you would be more than paid back by wealthy donors. I myself would be happy to provide the library with a steady flow of copies of my book, so you won't be affected by the cost of the raw book-and-quill-s needed to make the copies yourself.
Okay, just wondering here but, how will people with out the water plus donation, like me, go from building to building with out dieing? Also, if you put a warp in, how can that not be considered a "player trap out side a non-pvp zone"?
Very good point. Here's an idea: place hidden sponges under the roads' pavement you will have the roads magically immune to water If you want, the sponges might be hidden inside the building's structures as well, which would give an appearance of the city being protected by a force shield https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Atlantis
ECC's sponges disobey the laws of vanilla MC - even wet sponges clear a full 9x9x9, and they also prevent water from flowing in again. They are not blocked by something as simple as walls. Alteulerian hist?
I don't think this should be considered necro, as the thread creator is still active and plausibly still working at this (big) project. So, how's it going?
