Or "How a Melon Farming Hater Became a Melon Farmer Herself" Ever since I tried melon farming for about 10 minutes back in December, I thought I'd made up my mind on melon farming. I thought that mining was not only a bit more profitable, but more of an enjoyable experience. I used to say, "I'd never melon farm, I'd always choose mining, because mining is more an adventure." Boy, was I wrong. After taking time off from mining due to building for the Easter Build Contest in March, I hadn't really gotten back into mining since then. I finally decided to give melon farming a second chance. I saw @EtherealSquid's post advertising star tool rentals, so I decided to get ahold of him to rent an msword. At first, I only paid for three days (~67k). That first day, I only was able to farm for about 90 minutes, off and on. When I went to go sell at /warp omg (@glotai's shop), and walked out of there 25k richer, I realized that this might just be worth it. So, I got ahold of Squid again and asked to rent the sword for a week more, totalling 10 days for my rental. The total I paid for renting was about 166k, which isn't too bad in my opinion. My third day of renting, I had a little more time to really get to farmin'. I spent about three hours total, filled up a little over 7 player vaults, and made about 79k. This was the last time I actually made what you're supposed to melon farming, though lol. Throughout the rest of the rental time, I averaged about 17.6k an hour. I have since realized that the low amount was most likely due to the farm I was using (took a long time to re-grow, and even though there were a ton of double rows, some of the halves weren't growing, due to lighting issues). I didn't even find the experience to be all that boring, to be honest. Most of the time, I was either rocking out to metal whilst farming (along with moderating chat), or watching a show with my husband (also along with moderating chat). Sometimes, I just stared at the screen while the sword broke the melons, mesmerized by the whole thing. Overall, I farmed a total of 35 and a half hours, and made a total of 629k. Not bad, but not necessarily good either lol. At least I completed my goal of making more than double what I paid for the rental (was aiming for 450k total). I'm still set on melon farming, however. I just bought perms to @Shmoogedy's farm /warp herb (already love it), and have an easier way of getting my hands on a melon sword (friends will let me borrow theirs). To all the melon-farming haters out there: I used to be like you. But, I strongly suggest you give melon farming a shot - and don't do it for 10 minutes like I originally tried. Give it a good two hours, at least. Put on your favorite movie to zone out to. You'll thank me later Thank you for taking the time to read this little editiorial of sorts. This time, we're proud to announce that the Chronicle's very own "Netherstar Guy" @Fr0zenTiger has started his own channel too! Check it out here: https://tinyurl.com/fr0zentigeryt May's Writing Contest saw a lot of interesting stories. One of the most interesting was written by @kenny0011. He wrote an odd, almost-love story about @Stolio (which then prompted contest runner @welikeike22 to make a rule that there cannot be love stories). One person took the two-page minimum requirement to a whole new level - @Mission001 wrote a story that was over 60 pages (and not double spaced either)! It took over a week for the anonymous judges to come to a decision about the winners. Originally, there was only going to be three winners, each winning a $25 gift card for the ECC Shop. However, as Ike wrote on the post announcing the winners, the judges "determined that 3 rewards wasn't enough for all the submissions [they] received"! So, a fourth winner was added.
