The third edition of the ECC Chronicle is here! We have another full edition this week, with an updated fishing report from stongpelt, after the recent fishing nerf, as well as a feature giveaway courtesy of Karin and Splay! I'd also like to welcome @Karin_88 as The Chronicle's Deputy Editor. Remember, if you’d like to apply to be a reporter for us or just have a story suggestion use our HQ thread here. If you’d like to advertise with us, you can submit an application in our HQ thread here – ads currently cost $2,000ECD/edition. I hope you enjoy this week’s edition! TaylorBros22 - Editor Firstly, on a slightly serious note I want to set out the values that we, The ECC Chronicle, follow and will always follow. All of the team have agreed to follow these values. I was in two minds about whether to address the new Mr MainNorth that has appeared on discord, however, as they have become our "competition", I thought it right to address it in this way. We will always be a fun, lighthearted, enjoyable newspaper for our readers to enjoy. We will never reveal any economic (or other) exploits in the unlikely event that they are found during a report. They will be immediately brought to the attention of the administration. We will never harass, pester or bully staff or any other player into giving us information. This inlcudes, but is not limited to, staff "leaks", staff "drama" and player drama. This is not the aim or point of this newspaper and I will not allow it to happen. We will never twist words. Our reporting will always be honest and with good intentions. We will never publish anonymous information. If people come to us with information you, as the reader, have the right to know where it has come from so you can make your own decisions on how reliable it is and what to take from it. I will always hold my team to these high standards, and if you think any of my team breaks any of these values, please inform me and I'll get to the bottom of it. We believe that Mr MainNorth has questionable intentions and is not doing reports to benefit the community, but instead to stir things up, create drama and tension and force staff and other players into uncomfortable situations. As a result, we are offering a reward for any information that leads to the identification of Mr Main North*. *Your information must have clear evidence and The ECC Chronicle reserves the right to withhold the reward for any reason. An exciting little event was ran during the week of April 10th-17th, by user @RaginDevonian. He posted a Spawn Shop Build contest, as he was in need of a building idea for his new spawn shop! At first, the prize he offered was 50k. Then, he decided to put up a poll asking if there should be more prize money. Four "yes" votes later, and he raised the prize amount to 75k! As if this weren't exciting enough, @David_Torento stepped in and offered 25k to the 2nd place winner, as he was looking for a good design too! Five users signed up (@Karin_88, @creeperlover439, @LaggyTryHard, @zjkhan, and @pokemaster08); however, only three of them actually built something. All the shops entered in the competition followed the standard market-sized plot dimensions, and they all had plenty of chest space. LaggyTryHard ended up being the runner up, with this beautiful build! Karin_88 won first place, with this nice dark oak building! When asked about her win, Karin said, "I was shocked honestly. When I saw I was competing with Laggy, I thought I didn't have a chance, that dude is a great builder!" creeperlover439 made a great attempt, using white concrete and bricks in a unique pattern. I chatted with a person of each of the winning teams to find out what they thought about the event. @Caliki123 ’s explanation of how the game was played was pretty on-point. "Defend the Base was played to a strategy sort of; it was played slowly because if you and your teammate went to another base to destroy it, easily the other teams could go and mine your base until you had no lives left. You had to play it like 1 went and 1 stayed, just to make sure your competition was thinning, but your base was still well-protected." @Capbo_ said the most memorable part of the game was "when I got an pretty good combo on one of the enemies and then put the other enemy into a combo." Caliki123 had a bit of a different experience, saying, "My PC crashed and my teammate, iTzXtremeGaming, had to hold the base on his own, which proved to be a tough task. Nonetheless, he still protected it and we ended up winning!" @Piquno said the event was very enjoyable “since there were a lot of things happening at once.” His favorite moment was when "ItzRJ and I had destroyed TomKFC's and Enougher's base until there was 1 block left and it was a race to break that block." All the teams had some great strategies! @WeirdBuilder's team said this about their tactics: "My teammate and I made sure to play the objective. While some people focused on the PVP aspect of the gamemode, playing the objective (destroying the base) was the crucial element that some people neglected, and ended up losing the match because of it. Also, I found one of the best strategies to be to isolate yourself on a top corner of an opponent base, and break off the nearby blocks that would allow defends to reach you from. It worked very well for my partner and I, and we won our match because of it." Others would just leave one player at their base, while the other focused on the attack. “Mine and ItzRJ's strategy was that ItzRJ would go and destroy the base while I go PvP and lure the opposition away,” said Piquno. Both were truly good tactics! When asked if there were any suggestions for the next "Defend the Base" (should there be one), nearly everyone agreed that there should be more organization, and shorter games. For the most part, though, everyone seemed to enjoy the game! Caliki123 says he liked the PVP aspect of it, while also noting that there was more to it than just PVP. Piquno went into further detail, saying, "the only suggestion I would bring up is more preparation time for everyone to get in, and for the team which was running the contest to have more help." All-in-all, the event faired pretty well! Nearly all people I talked to said they'd love to play "Defend the Base" again in the future. Piquno’s reasons for why he’d play again were because "this is one of the better contests that I have participated in and it is also up my alley with PvP." WeirdBuilder responded, "Some of the logistics were a little rushed as we tried to get the games going, but it didn't detract much from the experience at all." He also added, "It's a very enjoyable gamemode that I hope will make a return. " Hopefully the gamemode will return, and be another hit! I think this was unquestioned and town owners just assume liquidity in residents. They assume people will leave their town once they are able to afford their own. However, with the right atmosphere of inclusion and planning, you can retain members and give people a reason to stick around. The reason it’s so easy to leave a builder town is because there’s never anyone there, you feel no connection to the community, and you could probably replicate it in a couple days if you worked hard enough. With a town that has obvious community, assets, amenities, and good leadership, you know you can’t replicate it as easily and thus are more inclined to stay. This helps build a community. Aesthetics I don’t know if anyone but my own family says it, but I’ve always been told that you appreciate things more when you work for them. If you’re handed a brand new car you are more likely to beat it up and never take care of it than if you had to work to get one. Maybe you don’t think this applies to video games, and that’s fair enough to have your own opinion. However, I can tell you from my experience that builders towns are far less aesthetically pleasing than for-profit towns. Part of this also comes down to how well you manage inactives and how strict your build codes are, but it’s mostly due to the fact that people won’t set down some chests and leave if they had to work for an hour just to get the plot. Town Development The fact of the matter is that town management is nearly completely passive income. You put out an ad every 30 minutes or so for people to check your town out and you will get people looking to buy plots assuming it is nice. You setup shops and donation systems and other things and suddenly you’re making hundreds of thousands of dollars without even doing anything. When this is the case, you no longer have to go grind 2 or 3 hours a day to meet the quotas you’re shooting for, so you have more time to develop your town, thus speeding up the process. My town /warp Bayview is not even 3 weeks old at the time of this writing and it is already farther in development than some towns that have been around for months. The point is not to brag. I also have a team of 5 town developers that have been insanely helpful and deserve tons of credit too. But the point is that if you are running a town for free, any town related activity represents a negative value in opportunity cost. Any time you spend selling or removing plots, changing town flags, building things in town, recruiting, writing up ads, etc. is all wasted time. You are making NOTHING for all the management it takes to run a good town. We have another staff interview for you, courtesy of @Karin_88 and @Fon_! Hey Fon! How are you doing today? I'm doing great! And you?! Good to hear, I'm doing pretty good myself! Do you have a few minutes to answer some questions about your return to staff? I sure do! Awesome, let's get started! When was the last time you were on staff on ECC, and what was your previous staff rank? I was promoted as a Moderator for the first time on Jun 3, 2019 and I resigned on Sep 28, 2019 as a SuperModerator. I bet you've missed being apart of team What was your favorite or most memorable moment that happened during your last time on staff? Yes! I did miss being part of the team a lot! Of course the day I got picked was a great day, but I think the days I most enjoyed were those first weeks, getting to know the role and the team. I learnt all the things along @AJCL; I remember we messaged each other a lot to solve our doubts, and it was truly awesome. That's amazing, the staff team is like a family who always has your back Have you noticed any major changes to staff since your last time on the team, such as the responsibilites moderators have now, compared to back then? Well, ECC Staff is a team that is changing all the time. They pick new staff very frequently, and the mood within the team changes with them. So in a way I could say the team is different, but I think responsibility-wise, it is pretty much the same as it was. Oh yes, it is always changing and the moods can definitely vary. One last closing question: What's one thing you hope to achieve whilst being back on the staff team? I wouldn't mind reaching highger position within staff, but I'm happy with helping however I can! I'm sure you'll get there Thank you so much for answering these questions, have a good day! It's been a pleasure, Karin! You too! Looking forward seeing all readers ingame soon! On Sunday night, a star casino took place. With a guaranteed star key and god crate to be won, the casino was packed! Odds upped every 5 minutes, until, at last the star prize was won! Congratulations to @officepwnz123 for winning 100,000 ECD and a Star Rocket! Thanks to @Karin_88 for the following video: And that brings this issue to a close! Thank you to everyone who has contributed this week, to everyone who was interviewed and to you for reading! I hope you enjoyed! Let me know if you want to see anything included.
Finally! Getting word out there as for why free plot towns are a bad idea! I’ve been sayin it for years and I’ll keep sayin it for years to come! Free plots help no one hehe Awesome read as usual <3
