The current rules on vulgar language are unclear: Inappropriate and vulgar language is not allowed. This includes anything put on signs, said in chat, written in books, renamed to on items (see Section 3 Clause 2.1), spelt out in blocks (see Section 2, Clause 2.1), or any other way of communicating. Occasional mild to moderate vulgarities that are not directed at anyone (such as "slip-ups" or saying them in the incorrect chat by accident), self-censorship of a swear word or abbreviations that may imply a swear word (eg. WTF?) are allowed unless it is directed at another user. Repeated or excessive swearing, and especially vulgar language directed at anyone, is not tolerated under any circumstance. Racist language or prejudicial language of any sort falls under the vulgarity rule, and is considered a very serious offence, punishment of which may not warrant a warning before being given a ban. They specifically state that it' s not alowed, HOWEVER, they make an exception for "Occasional mild to moderate" vulgarities - This leaves a lot to staff interpretation, which may pose problems - When you have moderators who are "soft" on vulgarities and moderators who are "harsh" on vulgarities, you start having players acting different depending on which staff are on. This isn't good for the community or the staff team as a whole. So, therefore I'll be suggesting to change the swearing rules to this: Cursing or swearing, is allowed to some extent as long as it doesn't violate any of these circumstances. Context matters, and terms directed at another person to harass, intimidate, insult, or cause harm to that other person will not be tolerated. Profane language is not allowed to be spammed or excessively used. No use of racist terms or other uses of profane language directed at a group of people. This rule change retains the family friendly aspect of ECC by making sure no one is harassed or offended by the vulgarity that may be used. This also makes sure vulgar language isn't to be excessively used, all while somewhat loosening up on the amount of things staff can warn for. Let's also remember that context matters so just swearing out of context won't be tolerated regardless. This leaves little room for staff discretion making sure that all staff treat the issues in the same way, getting rid of labels like "harsh" or "soft" on these things and making sure players behave regardless of what staff are online.
I do like to exspress my self from time to time with swear words (vulgar language) from time to time, I would like to see this rule updated as per OP. I think its okay to express ones self or situation with the occasional swear word (vulgar language)
Eh.. I'd say the variety of ways different staffmembers interpret the rules imply they are not fine as they are. Either the rules need to be changed, or the staff guidelines need to be changed.
+1 I like this, some mods warn for one bad word when others ignore when people use multiple bad words. It needs to be more clear what is against the rules and what is not
Comparing apples to oranges isn't the best way to go when making your argument. I'm assuming you were talking about the casino suggestion, but that is WAY different than this one.
It's obvious what vulgar language means, we don't need to further complicate the rules to explain something that can be easily found in any dictionary (cit.)
