Minecraft Name: Bashdash100 Suggestion: Add a part of the tutorial saying that you're better to go do your own work, mining/farming rather than working for someone. Reason: I see countless builders asking for jobs every day, when they could easily go and earn far more if they went and mined themseles. Let's face it: The majority of manual labour jobs are under paid, and builders get ripped off, think making money is far too hard and quit. Any Other Information: No need for some fancy building. A few signs will be more than enough.
I mean - In the money section of the tutorial, nowhere does it mention jobs nor does /help money ever mention jobs - We're not encouraging builders to get jobs in any way. I'm not in favor of a policy to discourage builders from doing jobs, however. Many players are reliant on players doing jobs such as clearing for them, and discouraging it isn't the best way to go about it when players are in need of other players to perform jobs for them. Might I also add, jobs have in fact benefited many builders, as many don't have the tools go make money by themselves, and when performing a job with provided tools, many get more money than they could've made alone - And they can use that money to buy tools that sufficiently allow them to make money, getting them set up on the server. Our current policy is fine towards paid labor - We don't endorse it nor do we condemn it. -1
Yus plz. +08 Edit: Ehhh, now that I think about it, I really don't know if we would really need this.
I am inclined to agree with Unitedstates (unusually). I feel that doing a few jobs for more established players is a great way to start off on the server. I helped someone clear their town when I first joined and it made me want to rank up and have a town of my own. Sure, there are some risks - getting paid minimal amounts, players taking advantage of new inexperienced players etc. I think the best part of it is that it increases the amount of interaction between the community. Doing jobs is a way of making friends - the first person I would consider a friend on ECC was someone who helped me build something in my town. One of ECC's strengths as a server is that the community is a lot more personal and engaged than other bigger mini game servers, and I don't think we should actively deter people away from doing things which encourage more interaction. The current balance is fine imo, through various ways new builders can find out about making money through farming/mining, but we don't, and shouldn't, warn people away from doing jobs.
I agree with United and Dewsy. I think that the paid labor is a really beneficial way for new players and established players to meet. I formed ongoing friendships with some of the people I worked for as a builder and I have met good new people through hiring builders. In that way while it may not have been immediately as lucrative for the builder, it pays dividends down the line.
Maybe you can tell them yourself not to do these things we need people to work for us. If you want them to work hours and hours mining and farm that's just even worse when they can work for someone and get at least 1k depending on the person paying. If they have to spend hours mining and farming they will quit the server they'll say its waste of time what I think is that we should let them start off with about 1k to spend in the market or help rank up. When I first came on this server I was like How on earth am I going to earn anything until someone gave me a stack of iron. Its very helpful even having a bit of money. When they do come on the server they will be leftout because they have $0 lets let them atleast have 1k instead of telling them to work work work everyday -10000000
