Minecraft Name: Natedog4040 Suggestion: I suggest that future changes to ECC be voted upon by donating (aka paying) players before being put into effect! Reason: I believe this should happen so that the donating (aka paying) players have a say in changes before they are put into effect!
Clarification: I think that the donating (aka paying) players should be the ones who decide on what changes should be made to ECC!
I definitely would not want this to happen. Reason: 1.many players do not have the money to donate and are too poor to buy donations from other players with in game money (my case). 2. Though this may increase the demand to be a donator, it may also turn people away from ecc because they think they would not be able to suggest their ideas about the server. 3. Clarify what the goal of this would be because I'm not too sure.
no. The majority of the donators are not capable of making such decisions. No offense, but these decisions are done by a select few for a reason. If donators could actually CHOOSE features, not just suggest them. Then ecc would die in a matter of months. all rank prices would go down, all money making methods would be going up. ECC would turn into a mess. It won't happen.
My Goal is to take the decision out of the hands of the one, and give it to the many. I don't mean to be mean or rude but I have made many suggestions none ever put into effect.
Many suggestions have been put in effect. And those that weren't were denied for various reasons. These are not decisions the masses can make, they're up to the management. McDonalds doesn't let its employees make important decisions either, there's no business that leaves decisions to the lower ranked individuals. It's always done by a board of people. All the other individuals can only do as much as suggest changes.
@Kuke, I think its rude you assume the worst, when there is no way to predict the future! unless you're saying you can do so which i highly doubt! Also I don't think it's polite for you to assume the capacity of ECC donators! Last but not least I don't think you are qualified to make such a decision either!
I am sorry you feel us donors are "lower ranked individuals"! Without the donors ECC won't exist! Unless you're offering to solely pay for hosting out of your own pocket you need to remember who actually pays for ECC! Big Hint The Donors Do!
Let us consider the following: 1) Andrewkm has kept the server running for 3 years. 2) Most of our players, donators included, are children. 3) The first thing they would vote to have happen is pumpkins be worth $2 again or crazy other price changes. 4) I thoroughly doubt Andrewkm would ever agree to this...
So you're saying "customers" should decide what happens with a company? I'm sorry, but giving your users/customers this sort of influence/power is just stupid.
Technically not even the government has granted that power to the American citizens. We 'vote' but the Electoral college can disagree with our votes. We vote the electoral college members into office, but what they do with their votes is up to them. Same thing with congress and all other people in power. Technically speaking the 'public' never gets to choose what they truly want. They have a board of people who make the decisions because those people are more informed on the issues... Hence, our current system is completely logical.
The way I feel it should be done is the same way RS07 (runescape old school) is, there are a few surveys every few months with ideas and suggestions of the players, the players vote and this gives the developers what ideas the players want, and don't want. Although it is up to the company owner to decide if the suggestion goes through, they usually tweak the suggestion to make it work. Now obviously people want 2$ pumpkins but andrew doesn't want that so there for it won't go through. The staff team can compose a list of suggestions they feel can possibly happen and before it is accepted into the game we have a vote for the players (donators only would be nice as we have usually played more and have more commitment to the server then someone who has just played for fun. BTW I can't afford irl donations either, every single donation I own is from ECD, there is no excuses.) and see if the player base likes or disagrees the idea or suggestion. Please note this doesn't have to be price changes ! That can be done by the superiors such as kukelekuuk00 who make it challenging but fair to make money, although controversial topics such as mining world PvP and such can be and should be voted on by the players, this is our game after all, without the players Ecc would not exist. Continuing the rant, I feel that this would bring the community closer as a whole, the game would be molded around what the players like and enjoy playing. ECC is very fun atm don't get me wrong, but there are some ideas that I am completely against, 1 being mining world being non pvp, 2 being that the pvp arenas aren't built right (need walls so people can't run out easily), 3 flying in the nether. Those are just a few but it would be nice if the community as a whole voted on what they would want, the vote would have to be 60+% to make it go through in my opinion but like I said, anything can be tweaked.
Reading through this topic, there are a number of things, I'd like to address. I'll condense this post into a number of points for easy reading: The players of ECC do influence what gets added to ECC, they do this by deciding which features they want to purchase, and by deciding how they want to spend their time. Item prices in ECC reflect market forces like any economy, and whenever for example people find a new way to make money, the system they use will be effected, huge influx of items/sales will eventually be reflected in server prices. ECC doesn't in truth have any donators, as the players who purchase features, are purchasing something directly, not donating to the server. Andrewkm himself, doesn't decide how Minecraft works. We use a plugin called mcmmo, which does the skills that you are familiar with, if that plugin decided it wanted to throw away the herbalism skill, that is their choice, andrewkm has little say in the matter. The same goes for what decisions mojang decides on. If mojang or another developer decides to make a decision that would negatively effect the server, andrewkm has the choice to react on this decision to perform disaster control, we have seen this recently on the enchant issue. Andrewkm is not ignorant of the staff and the community, there are some talented people in the ECC community, and Andrewkm knows this. If a situation arises which needs to be address, he will ask the appropriate members of the community for their opinions. As such, core personal such as, me, kuke and revan, are currently included in most of the normal decision processes, and will be contacted whenever a decision overlaps with our skills. There was a comparison earlier which compared ECC to Runescape. I think this is a good comparison, the Runescape project was always on the lookout as to what the community thought, it had suggestion forums, bug forums, and often posted polls on what people thought was most important. I also know how often features were accepted and the result of the Runescape polls. Which is to say, they were used as an indicator of what the community wants, not a direct influence on what actually happened. At the end of the day Andrewkm's job is to run Ecocitycraft, he has been running this for years, and obviously understands what works, otherwise you wouldn't be here. While you are free to express your opinion, it is Andrewkm who has the proven track record of actually deciding what works.
