Minecraft Name: zr2002 Suggestion: Recently in game, I have been called to a number of cases where an owner of a region has asked a user to leave, and all they do is go a few blocks outside of the region. I am suggesting to change the rules that the user must move outside of the chat region if a staff member asks them to. So, change the rules from this: To something like this: Reason: Stated above. Any Other Information: N/A Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: Wiki/Rules
Why not just consider it trolling? Not everything needs to be explicitly in the rules. When someone asks you to leave and you decide to go 1 block outside of the town it's trolling. TP em away, kick em. I don't care. Just don't add more useless rules.
Agreed. I don't believe we need the rules to go into that much detail anyway. This can just be considered trolling either way, and mods can handle it appropriately. The only thing we get from having overly-complex rules is just loopholes and users not reading the rules. -1 to editing the rules +1 to changing the staff guidelines so these situations can be considered trolling
Unfortunatly lots of people will argue their case and ask where it is in the rules. I thought it would just be easier xD I can see where you guys are coming from though, Maybe what @UnitedStates2 suggested would be better.
I see half dozen of the current rules that are listed that could be applied under that rule. Its such a misleading rule as its down to what the staff feel is common sense and what isnt. Which could be a big difference.
Isn't that what all rules really are though? To what staff (or really, their guidelines) determine is and is not a violation of that rule? Personally I think it's pretty clear you're bending the rules when you are causing a problem, asked by staff to stop, and then make it so you aren't "technically" breaking any rules but are still able to cause the same problem. Rules shouldn't be clear-cut and outline specific scenarios, because when they do that they are open to many more loopholes. Rules should be broader and left more open to interpretation.
Its called a loophole which some people actually get away with and others dont, Which then makes the staff not look consistent which then some people make it their business to make sure that staff know. And i know, a staffer can then say that the user is harassing them and punish them that way, But then the staffer gets punished for being too harsh... Its a slippery slope, just saying
+1 I see what nicit is arguing however recently I have noticed it happening more and more frequently and it has gotten to the point where it is just taking the mick. I think it would just be easier to add the rule so if this happens again at least then it can be enforced and people are not just going "you are picking on me" blah blah blah... Yes its down to personal preference however if its not clearly stated in the rules there will be some users, sadly, in our community who will argue against it and get away with it. I just think it would be easier for the rule to just be added as trolling doesn't seem to be good enough for some. -Gecko @SuburbSomeone
There's a reason why I suggested putting it in the staff guidelines. Whilst Nicit6 is right about this being covered under trolling and harassment, Mission001 is also correct about them needing to create a specific rule/guideline regarding this - That lead me to propose creating an addition to the guidelines. It's already covered under the rules, as there is are rules specifically pertaining to trolling and harassment, which is what the suggested rule falls under - We really don't need the rules to be more complicated; They need a great deal of simplification instead. However, like Mission said, without proper guidelines/rules regarding this, this won't be consistently enforced and will often lead to arbitrary punishments, which isn't something we need. So, therefore I've suggested to leave the rules regarding this alone, and just edit the guidelines regarding this instead. As far as the "common sense" rule goes, it's quite silly to have a "common sense" rule anyway, as people naturally lack common sense and are irrational and illogical - And it seems even more silly to have a rule regarding loopholes/bending the rules - There's literally no way to argue that the user is actually "bending the rules" or "abusing a loophole" - They're literally just following the rules and doing things that aren't covered under the rules - Which should be completely legal, making it hard for staff to argue that a user is "abusing a loophole/bending the rules". What we should be doing instead is getting rid of these silly, unenforceable rules pertaining to common sense, loopholes and bending the rules, simplifying the rules as a whole and making the staff guidelines explicit. As explicit rules are often prone to loopholes, so it is necessary to keep them vague. However, it is necessary to make the staff guidelines explicit to avoid arbitrary punishment and enforcement of the rules.
That already happens. If a user refuses to leave a town after multiple kicks/force TPs, staff will take appropriate action, which includes temp-bans.
Honestly it's up to the staff member's discretion. This isn't a suggestion suggesting that staff members be more strict on this. It's adding a rule saying that they must leave the local chat if a staff member requests them to do so.
